Why does somebody feel the need to bring this up every time The Land Before Time franchise is mentioned?

So are they dinosicles yet? Cuz the whole series started with the extinction-level event that killed the dinosaurs (well, the ones that hadn't grown a full coat of feathers). And large dinosaurs, especially apatosaurs are believed to have lost any coat they had well before reaching adulthood, much like how baby elephants have more hair than adults. Or perhaps I'm just in shock that 14 of these movies have been made.

That movie had more than one sequel? Seriously I was a little kid when I saw the first one, I vaguely recall seeing an ad for the second one.

Fourteen is just insane. I, at first, thought the OP was kidding and this thread was a humourous critique of the tendencies of movie studios to overdo it on sequels.

I.. I knew how many LBT movies they have, but I don't accept any after the first one[footnote]and the Fievel series ended at 2.[/footnote]. It was beautiful, perfect in it's own right from start to finish with no need for anything else. It was, for the most part, a perfect movie. Emotional, non-pandering, and had scenes that to this day hold up gloriously. Giving it a sequel would be like making a sequel to Wizards, unless you truly respected the tone and feel you was always going to pale against the original.

The sequels took what was a rather mature story and turned it into just a regular direct-to-dvd fluff that can be put in so that the kids can watch the pretty colors and shut up for an hour. No more compelling then a Carebears movie..

14!?!?!? There are 14 of these movies? I only ever recall two and I can't remember what the second one was.

Maybe it's time to close the franchise unless they are all really that good.

Because other than "Why did they turn this into a series of crappy sing-a-longs when the first movie was actually a very good coming-of-age story?" that's the only thing worth talking about.
