Considering how bad the majority of Land Before Time sequels were (and that last movie was just atrocious), I'm seriously hoping this doesn't turn out badly. (Crosses fingers)
Okay, I've heard that before, and I wanna ask you (and anybody else who can answer)... Why? I haven't seen it myself, and all I know is that it's got the usual staples of the sequels... That is, okay songs and some new tradition that we're supposed to accept was always a thing (in this case, the Wisdoms).

What makes this one especially bad?

EDIT: While I might diss the songs, I'll defend "The Lone Dinosaur" to my last breath.
Okay, I confess I haven't seen it either, having long since grown out of the series. I have, however, seen the review Marzgurl did (and I recommend the series of reviews she did on the movies if you want to see how far the series has fallen), but compared to the first movie, it's so damn childish! And while the "Wisdoms" angle isn't bad (God knows these kids need some safety tips after all they've been through, though why any of their guardians hasn't taught them these Wisdoms by now is anyone's guess.) the way Littlefoot starts acting like a know-it-all doesn't help. And the new characters in this movie are pretty annoying...

OT: I want to believe this new movie will be good, but looking back, it's hard to get excited...

I watched the MarzGurl reviews too, and while XIII definitely doesn't seem good, the other ones just don't seem much better either.

14...yep, yep...yep...I remember watching a few of the early sequels, up to 4 or 5 I think. And if I'm being perfectly honest I probably wouldn't have quite as dour an opinion of them if they hadn't been such a complete tonal shift from the first installment, but at any rate, I was very disaffected with them at least half a dozen entries ago. At this point I'm just like...well...

The only one I remember after the first was the one where they sort of adopt the baby T-Rex. Think they called him Chompers? I liked that one.

I do remember there being some really strange ones later down the line.

Interested I guess? Ever since MLP came along I've been back on a spree of watchin random animated shows that are "for kids" and have been pleasantly surprised at the quality of some of them. Maybe this will surprise me, who knows?

I saw the original when I was a kid, enjoyed it well enough, and moved on to the next kid-friendly movie (stuff like The Neverending Story and Labyrinth). I was... err, probably in my older teens by the time I discovered there were any sequels, which I registered with a "huh, who knew". And now there's 14 of them!? I mean... what the utter feck? How does a franchise of ANYTHING last that long?

There are two equally unbelievable explanations here. The first is that there's some rabid Land Before Time fandom who have been buying LBT movies from their childhood into adulthood. The second is that animated dinosaur movies have an ongoing appeal that is making each installment profitable... but in that case why does LBT seem to have a monopoly on the genre, has no rival studio thought about capitalising on the appeal with a big-budget rip-off?

If there is one thing that has no right to exist in the world, one thing so out-of-place that it seems at odds with creation... it's a FOURTEENTH Land Before Time movie.

I love the first one but I really don't get why they thought adding songs would improve them. Granted I've only seen the first 5 films and there were some decent songs but the first one will always be the best and If We hold Hold On Together (or whatever it's called) will always be the best song (Always There a close second)

The thirteenth one was worse than the rest because while the other ones were bad, the thirteenth one fully expected you to sympathize and relate to these creatures (and an unfunny Cuba Gooding Jr.) while they consistently made bad decisions. The animation was on par with that of the show and it didn't have ANY humour or good voice actors to save it (unlike, say, the seventh one which at least had Michael York, Jim Cummings and Rob Paulsen playing the antagonists so THEY were good). Poor Jeff Bennett, I remember a time he was in EVERYTHING and he's now relegated to Land Before Time sequels.

Also I agree, the Lone Dinosaur is a catchy af song.

I watched all of them, because when I was a child I was a die hard fan of anything dinosaur related. After the...oh crap, I don't remember...

Which of them featured a small Ophthalmosaurus (dolphin-like thingy) and them making a journey to ocean? This film.
After that the franchise just turned into a shitfest and I stopped caring about it, still watched though...yep, I like being hurt.
You are talking about the ninth one! Christ, I can't believe I know which one is which.

The original Land Before Time was in 88.
The franchise is 27 years old.
Who are they making this movie for?

We got 14 FF games so far, and that's just numbered sequels
Yeah, true. I suppose we could include James Bond films as well. But both FF and Bond take the franchise in different directions with different characters, different settings (in the case of FF), and the occasional reboot. Land Before Time, if I understand correctly, is a single continuity?

Ahhhhhh...
Plus 26 episodes of a tv series that basically made up little movies with varying severity and urgency in the plots.

This is also the longest gap between them. 8 years now. The 13th one came out when I was 16...GODDAMN I'M OLD!

Listening to it for the first time in years, it holds up way better than I thought. Only thing I remember about that sequel, except for the actual design of the lone dinosaur. Have no recollection of why he's Lone and how that whole thing was resolved

He's "Lone" because reasons. No really, he never explains why.

It's resolved by Grandpa becoming a new legend passed on by the kids after he helps Doc (Lone dinosaur) crush an allosaurus and T-Rex under rubble, take a tooth, and undo the bad luck curse on the valley. Then Doc leaves because tradition. I think that's about it.

The problem with those movies is that they became kiddified to pander to children, something I despise. I'm starting to have my doubts about this new movie...

I'm not old enough to have seen these in the theater though. I'm 26. But I watched them as a kid, like most of the popular shows from the 80's and 90's.
It's not an age thing. All of the sequels were straight-to-video.
I made by brother and sister (grade school) watch the original, and they hated it. Which is too bad, since it was actually quite good. It had this desolate, apocalyptic search for a new promised land thing going for it. It went straight down hill after bluth left the picture.

I don't know, I'm not sure why these are still being made. Are most kids even aware of this franchise anymore? I thought it had lost all relevence in this day and age. Not every kids film can be Ghibli, I guess.
