The Last Airbender is now this year's Eragon?!

I wanted this movie to work. I really, really wanted it to work. When plans for a movie based on Avatar: the Last Airbender (or the Legend of Aang for those of you across pond) were announced, I (and countless other Avatar fans) felt this was a great opportunity to show what a great series this was to the rest of the world.

After seeing all of these reviews from the premiere, I'm beginning to seriously doubt if I'll even go watch it (and I consider myself a huge fan of the show).

So, I ask you my fellow Escapists, if you were planning on watching the movie before, will you now? And for the 15 of you that are Avatar fans, what are your thoughts on this development?

I never was planning on seeing it. I could tell from the previews that it wasn't the movie for me. Didn't look all that great either. I'm kind of glad I didn't get my hopes up, and I'm sorry that those of you who did are going to be disappointed.

Rotten Tomatoes gave it a 7%. I can't wait for Moviebob's review. I want him to destroy it.

I'm gonna ignore the reviews for now. I'm seeing it tommorow night with some friends, and--worst case scenario, I'll still have fun with them, even if the movie sucks.

I was still going to see it tomorrow, but now I'm convinced that my instincts are correct (making all modern movies pure crap, which I firmly believe with few exceptions).

I can't say I expected much. It suffers the same fate as many comic book movies, trying to shoehorn as much lore in as possible makes it a big unfocused mess.
Sad part is, I'll probably still see it.

I'm kind of a fan of the show, but I figured that the movie wouldn't be very good. It'll probably do well enough to warrant a sequel though.

This man ruins any movie that he touches, I have never been a fan of the show, but knew that those who are were in for a massive disappointment as soon as I saw that he had some part in it.

Big name director destroying everything he touches?


I didn't put my hopes up. I only saw maybe 2 episodes of Airbender, but from what I saw of the promos, even I knew that it was off base. You can tell a story is way off base when somebody who knows next to nothing about the show can tell you the story is wrong.

I'm pretty sure that I'll end up doing just that in the near future (which is 5 seconds from now).

I'm quite a fan of the show, but to be honest, a real life Aang is just a bold 12 year old, and I can't imagine the airbending effects to work quite as well as the animated series.. I MAY watch it.. If I'm bored.. And its raining.. cats and dogs..

I had a lot of hope for this movie... now I am upset... and I dont have a movie to see this weekend...
