I liked the animated series and when I heard about the movie my first reaction was excitement, and then my second reaction was oh man I bet this will actually suck. I'm sad that it looks like I'll end up being right.

See this what happens when someone makes a movie about a comic/cartoon and say "Fuck the fans I want money!!!". With the Watchmen, Kick-ass, Dark knight, LOTR, and Iron Man movies they worked hard and tried to please the fans without bending over and it paid off.

and another thing DAMN YOU M. NIGHT SHAMALONGADING DONG you screwed up one of my favorite series beyond recognition.

i watched avatar when it first started showing, but i admit that i stopped watching about half way through the earth book. what i remember seeing, however, was great. good characters, nice animation, excellent story, and good voice-acting.

i probably will not see it just so my fond memories of avatar are not destroyed.

I think this really had the potential to be as good as say, Lord of the Rings.

I place the blame for this squarely on M Night Shyamalan. May he never be trusted with a beloved franchise ever again.

Wow, I haven't even seen it yet but... 7% is pretty bad.

I would never pay actual money to watch the film but the ads had me thinking there was some neat animations and a general feel that was at least "different" compared to everything else this summer.

Now that I think about it, even if this movie turns out to be the love-child of Dragonball:Evolution and Battlefield Earth, this was the first time I saw that you could buy a box-set season for $25. So if anyone saw the potential of the movie and realized that Shyamalan strangled it to death, they can watch the series for themselves for cheap-ish.

Silver linings do exist, I guess.

For what I watched I did like the show. It had an elaborate story and good sense of humor with the appealing cartoon style that I enjoyed throughout, and I liked how the movie sort of adapted the style with the transaction from cartoon to live action instead of awkwardly painting it on like in the old street fighter movie. As for seeing the movie I didn't think of seeing it in theatres but I might watch it on DVD.

Damn, I squarely had a flashback to a memory in Seattle when my friend told me at hot topic that he really wanted an Avatar: The Last Airbender T-shirt and I had a twenty minute rant about how stupid it was to buy a t-shirt to a movie which you havn't even seen yet! Provided I thought that Avatar was deep and truly significant as the last truly original Nickelodeon cartoon, however buying a movie t-shirt for it is rewarding a movie just for being made.

Yeah, I'm going to avoid this abomination like the plague, and hope it goes the ways of the DBZ live action. Maybe hide in my room and watch the old re-runs every now and then...
Bah, I'd do that whether there was a movie or not.

"My first girlfriend became the moon"
"That's rough."

I might go see it anyway. If nothing else, it'll give me something to rage about before I decide "fuck this, I'ma rent the series on DVD". Not all at once of course, I do have a job that takes up a fair amount of my time.

Here's an idea. Why don't we wait for, I dunno, PROFESSIONAL reviews? Maybe after more than 30-ish random and probably fickle moviegoers post their opinion? In fact, why don't we all rely on our OWN opinion instead of following the majority and declare the movie as bad without ever seeing it like a mindless sheep?

I heard M. Night Sham - that's all there is to it - has a daughter that loved the series... oh boy, did he ever open a can of worms on this one.

I honestly feel kind of bad for the poor guy, he took something that should never have failed and made it fail -- I mean I had problems with how the animated series ended and such, but at the core it was pretty good. It had just about everything there is to succeed, critically or otherwise and somehow he either ignored it all or just beat the living crap out of it for some undisclosed reason.

Ah well. Maybe this is the last we'll hear of him, everything that went wrong was what went wrong with The Happening. It seems he's hit the Rut of Failure.

EDIT:

Those were the professional reviews.

Saw this coming since I was linked to the trailer from this very website.

How did ANYONE think this was going to be a good movie? There is no way in HELL you could squeeze in all the awesomeness from one of the seasons into a movie! Its. Just. Not. POSSIBLE!

okay, okay... deep breaths...

I still have hope for the movie.
And I have to go, because the guy who plays Aang is a ATA member
