I actually found the story to be not that bad, and a few of the set-pieces were interesting, but overall I felt it a bit lacking. Not bad, just not as good as it could have been.
It ended pretty satisfactorily for me.
I wouldn't suggest buying it just for the campaign though, if you don't have any interest in either the Zombie mode or multiplayer, get something else.
I'm kinda disappointed with how little your own defeat in combat means in that game, and with the one button combat. NPC interaction is annoying too, but that's only cause they'll forget I'm doing their friendship quests, and give them to me again when I come back to check them in...
Seriously, running twelve packages for each and every whore or a beggar shouldn't be something a prince/king dose to be popular or get married...

And the ending was cool. Nothing great story-wise, but it was pretty epic.
