Haha. Yes. It's a fun "game" (despite the odds, since you have no real control over it). Technically, there is a way to join without being anyone's pupil, but it's pretty much rigged to encourage 'social' spreading of the game. (I myself am someone's pupil, an they, in turn are someone else's.) Basically, you get XP when your pupils level up.
(but don't bother trying to trick the system by creating huge numbers of extra accounts. You get nothing for those.)
