The last good comedy you saw ?

A lot of today's comedy movies suck. They don't make me laugh they simply entertain much like a monkey curious of his own ass.

Perhaps I'm just pessimistic or maybe missing out on little lost gems either way I firmly believe that a good comedy in where I will laugh shall not exist till I'm most likely dead.

So to those of you who have watched a comedy that truly did make you laugh out from your lungs I simply ask a question. "Which was it ?"

(Please no Monty Python I saw it. I laughed and was satisfied at the time.)

Sideways is a great comedy starring Paul Giamatti. Its mostly dry humor and has quite a few serious moments in it but to be honest I feel that it amplifies the funnier moments. The movie's pretty long so make sure you have enough time on your hands

Now, it might require a bit of familiarity with the Blaxsploitation flicks of '70s to reach maximum laugh potential, but I think if you're a fan of the Zucker-Abrahams-Zucker style of comedy ('Airplane!' and 'Naked Gun' movies), you'd probably really enjoy it. I personally have not laughed that hard in... well, a long time. I actually did a spit-take like 3 times watching it (and boy were my friends pissed, since it was their apartment).

Other than that, the original Hangover [http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1119646/] was pretty funny.

Wedding Crashers [http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0396269/] is a personal favorite. I've watched it many times, and never fail to laugh.

Zombieland or Bubba Ho-Tep - I forget which one I saw most recently. Yeah, most mainstream comedies are unfunny paint-by-numbers cash-ins, but there is good stuff out there.

Paul. I saw it a few months ago but I still thought it was hilarious, if not as good as Hot Fuzz or Shaun of the Dead, it's still up there.

For TV shows, I just watched an episode of 8 Simple Rules. Sure, it's cheesy, but David Spade is amazing in it.

Jour de Fete. 1947.

This was the first feature-length movie of French comedian and director Jaques Tati. It doesn't have a plot so much as a series of quirky, clever sight gags which take place in a picturesque little village on the day of the annual village fair. The movie focuses mostly on the antics of local postman Francois, played by Tati.

One of the attractions at the fair is a makeshift cinema, just a tent with a movie projector inside. Here, Francois is shown a short film, a spoof "documentary" in which footage of stuntmen driving motorcycles at breakneck speed through burning hoops is presented as the standard training program for American mail carriers.

Feeling inferior, Francois sets off with his dinky old bicycle the next morning - determined to bring the village's leisurely postal service up to what he now believes to be the modern standard speed. Which he does with such inventiveness, it must be seen to be believed.

I very much wish I could show you this scene, as mere words are powerless to describe it. However, it is unavailable on YouTube at the moment, and that's me out of ideas.

Well, I think most of the films that come out this day aren't that funny, but I guess, the last film I really enjoyed was Gulliver's Travels, just because of my pure love for Jack Black's acting style!

Team America is the funniest film I've ever seen. I was on a long car journey the first time I watched it, so ended up watching it back-to-back 3 times in a row, and literally crying every fucking time.

Firefly, but I don't know if it's comedy. The opening is damn hilarious though.

Also, Jaynestown is the funniest episode of any TV show ever anywhere.

Community. Just watch the show. It is insane how funny and clever it is, and how much effort they put into the production and the humor. And it is the only comedy that has moments like these:


that are NOT cutaway gags. That is actually an entire episode about paintball, shot like and action-movie directed by the director of Fast Five.


The show is also insanely genre savvy and parodies tropes all the time. Yes, you have found it. The TV-show. Enjoy.
