So what's the last great Jrpg you played?

In my expereience, Jrpg's have always been hit or miss for me, atm I'm severely disappointed with the selection on home consoles because as I'm not into the whole concept of generic gameplay.Over 2008 I felt that the best Jrpg's available were not available on home consoles but on handhelds.

The last Jrpg that I felt was a great experience was "The World Ends with You", it had everything: an innovative battle system, a great plotline, collectables, interesting characters, cool powers, incredible soundtrack.

I'm willing to try out the upcoming Jrpg's that come out but tbh I won't be holding my breath for a new and interesting Jrpg experience.

Dragon Quest on the PS2 Refreshingly different. FF12 was ok. At least it tried something different.

I've never much enjoyed any JRPG except the Kingdom Hearts game on the GBA. So I guess that would answer your question. On the other hand I'm sucker for any halfway decent WRPG, but I guess thats just programming the good ol' US of A used on me. In fact thinking about it makes me want to go play Mass Effect right now.

Oh wait! Wait! *pants* I'm about eight hours into Chrono Trigger right now, that's the best JRPG I've ever played!

Chrono Trigger on my DS and then "The world ends with you" before that. Loved them both

I don't know if Megaman Battle Network on GBA counts.

If not, then probably Golden Sun 2: The Lost Age.

I havent really enjoyed much since FFX, the subsiquent FF's were at least trying to be different but were either bland or so annoying and frustrating that i gave up on them. There's been a lot out for the xbox that i couldn't play as I am a PS household, but several out for hand held like "The world ends with you" which i wasn't a fan of. "Golden sun 2: the lost age" was great but i forget when i bought it so i don't know whether its the last good JRPG I played but i thought it was worth at least worth a mention.

Currently playing Last Remnant and loving it. A JRPG with an interesting setting, a proper villain and a fresh combat system. Yeah, the protagonist is a moron, but it's easy to ignore him :p

I'm currently playing the original Kingdom Hearts and it is fantastic - pity I can't physically play it at the moment seeing as my roommate is hogging the tv playing MGS4. Grrrr.

I am in the vast minority, but my favorite Jrpg (I haven't played one in a while so I'm going back) is, imnsho the most underrated jrpg out there and that is Final Fantasy IX. With its unique setting, cartoony graphics, great throwback meets innovation battle system and leveling system, and FANTASTIC plot it was one of the highlight experiences for me. I played through the game soup to nuts twice at prolly 40 hours a run through. Its a shame they don't make em like that anymore. Wow I loathe myself for saying that.

I think the last JRPG I played was FFXII, although the last one I enjoyed must have been Dragon Quest VIII. Still, I enjoy a lot of JRPGs.

I think I'm gonna have to get a DS, mind, since The World Ends With You looks quite good.

Wild Arms 5, for great music, battle system and a unique conflict even if it was resolved in traditional JRPG ways (go into space and beat up the big evil demon thing that's possessing the main bad guy).

Also if you disliked FFX's Tidus don't play this one- Dean is like an amalgamation of everything annoying about Tidus with IQ scaled back even further. I enjoyed Tidus but disliked Dean.
