Because some people are not used to higher framerates.

Some people don't see a big enough difference between 30 and 60 and go with the one that will be more consistent. I don't at least.

I've heard be people say that 60 fps looks way to smooth and it bugs them.

As long people are enjoying the game, who cares what fps their playing at?

This just makes me more skeptical that the port of a PS3 game wont reach a constant 60fps like it should. It seems to me that it'll have a lot of framedrops and only be 60fps in very specific spots like Infamous: Second Son (which also had a 30fps lock option)
I think this, It's either do you want frame rate that can jump up and down from anywhere to 60 to below 30 depending on how much is going on vs a constant 30 all around.

I think frame rate jumping all over is more noticeable then 60 fps or not.

Please stop saying this. It's not true, and it's never been true. Tests have pegged people detecting the difference as high as 100 -> 110 frames per second. If you cannot tell the difference between 30 and 60 fps, there is literally something egregiously wrong with your eyes.

EDIT: How do I reading comprehension

OT: Options are good. Options are optional. Why would anyone complain about options?

Yeah, this does sound like a "We're not as confident we're going to hit rock solid 60 at all times, so here's a fallback"

Saying that, I'd rather have locked at 30 than jumping around the whole time above that.

Not really saying that people cant see 60fps or more but have people done tests to see if some eyes cant actually see more then 30 or something, like an actual condition?

I dont know, the difference between 30 and 60 seems something so fucking easy to notice that it blows my mind some people say they cant see any difference.

Let's react to an inoffensive graphical option!!!

[popular game] has an anti-aliasing toggle.
Internet: HOLY FUCK THIS IS SOOO HORRIBLE.

Can we please stop getting offended at what might as well be technical specs?

This option does suggest that either there's wild stuttering in the framerate at 60fps, or maybe the animations look a bit funky at higher frame rate.

Either way, nice to have the option for those who might not like how the game looks at 60fps.

Isn't it pretty obvious that this is so it'll run on lower-end computers? You might as well ask why there's a 'medium' graphics setting.

Something does not compute there, sonny. :3

Unless you weren't being serious. In which case, I dun goofed.

OT: I... really? That's an odd option to have for a console game. I suppose, as people have said above, that it's a possible indication that they haven't really got the game running silky smooth at 60fps, like a lot of games on console. That's something that always irks me slightly, since a console is dedicated hardware, so devs know exactly what they're working with. That said, I'm not a dev, so what do I know?

Nope, I dun goofed - forgot it wasn't on PC :p

Okay, yeah, that is odd. I guess some people could prefer it, but unless there are actually unstable framerates past that point - kind of disappointing given that it's a PS3 game running on current-gen hardware - it doesn't really seem like an option many people would use. It doesn't hurt anyone to have it there, though, unless it's the default option.
Well, they have upped the graphics, so it's quite likely that the hardware could be struggling with it. And yeah, I ain't gonna complain about it being there, but it is a bit odd, all things considered.

Wait... how can you get dizzy at 60fps if you can't tell the difference beyond 30fps? I'm confused by your statement.

Ya know, similarly, Second Son ended up getting a 30 fps lock option in a patch. I never used it because I thought the game played well at around 45-50, but I can see why some would resort to it for a more smooth experience.

You won't see me using it, though. I can't wait to play TLoU in 60 fps.

i don't really care about fps as long as the game doesn't randomly freeze and go again or is like really really bad stop animation haven't had to worry about that last one for a long time now since i upgraded from a pos computer or ever on consoles

As much as 60 might be the preferred number in this case, if the game looks like crap and/or runs like crap when not played at 30 then I'd be perfectly happy playing it at 30.

According to the devs, this is not the case and the entire game runs at a solid 60 FPS.

-It feels more cinematic at 30 fps compared to 60 fps.
-Above 30 fps causes input lag.
-Playing at 60 fps feels off and I get dizzy.
-Its a good idea not to change the original design.

Pick one or more silly reasons why people cling to the fact that 30 fps is better and/or there is not benefit on 60+ fps.
I read everything but the last line and typed out a nice long response until I got to it and realized you were on the same page as myself and the rest of reality. Well played sir. :)
