The last time you were truly scared and/or disturbed in a game?

Nothing compares to the sheer nightmare fuel that is the Silent Hill series, but since you're asking about the last game the disturbed me I'm going with Halo (the first game, feel free to laugh).

I was casually strolling through the level after the Flood, without any teammates, and my ammo had run out completely. I look at the radar thing (that shows any enemies around) and see nothing. So I continue running through a tight corridor, feeling uneasy as hell. It just felt like something was wrong. You know that feeling when you just know that something is off? The constant eerie sounds didn't help either.

So I look at the radar again - nothing. I finally get to a dead end and decided to turn around. As soon as my camera turned the whole goddamn screen showed a creature from the Flood, staring at me, gurgling. He was just sitting there, admiring me... Cue me jumping on the ceiling. I still have no idea why nothing showed on that radar, or why I heard no sound even through he had been following me for so long... Brr, I felt so stalked after that part...

Half-Life 2's Ravenholm was frequently disturbing to me, especially when the headcrab zombies light on fire, and start screaming.

And it scared me silly when I heard one of those really fast ones coming, only to turn around and find him chewing my shins.

So, yeah. Ravenholm.

Seconded.
Also, the level in NOLF2 where you have to search Melvin's House.

Nothing really disturbing up to now, though I always found it odd that townspeople talk freely and pretty casually to some heavily armed, blood-splattered foreign guy in Dragon Age.

Viva Piñata. You hit invading piñatas with a shovel, only to hear kind saying "Yeah!!!"; dying piñatas break and leave candy that is eaten by other piñatas; piñatas will have sex with any others of their race, including their own family and you can sell your piñatas for money.

Excuse me, I think I'm gonna be sick.

There was an old snoopy game for the..... er, I have no idea, but pretty much a side scroller where you moved through rooms and on each room you had to do something like jump above a hole or avoid, what I referred to as a 8 year old child, ground sharks, by jumping above them while not hitting the, against what I referred to as a child, kitchen closet doors, on the ceiling.

If I remember correctly, I was never able to pass the fourth room. But the ground sharks really scared me, why would they do that to poor snoopy?!?!??

I guess my point is that since then I haven't been scared by a game...

...the fuck? that sounds more like a Lovecraft book more than a game with a lovecraft spin on it. How is that a game? or is it like the old text-adventure kind of games?

Personally, I find slower paced games to possibly the most terrifying. The ones where I know that things are out and around me- but I dont know how they are going to get me or where they are. Games that make you paranoid and question everything and force you to move at a slow pace out of fear- those are some of the best games out there
