I recently bought an Nintendo 3DS XL and gotten Animal Crossing New Leaf with it. I can see why people love the 3DS XL alot which I felt I should of got it ages ago (well ok when they release the XL version).
I also loved the streetpass feature especially on Animal Crossing but in saying so when I see people house, it make my so inferior since I only bought it days ago (the amount of Nintendo theme rooms I see in those people houses).

Assuming it's still in theaters next week, I likely won't be able to catch Pacific Rim until it's on disc.

I played Super Mario Sunshine for the first time...last summer I think and stopped playing after a while. I tried playing it again last month and was bored to tears by it. I tried playing it this morning and got a bit further but just couldn't stay invested.

Super Mario Galaxy on the other hand: I got that back in March or April and when I first started playing it I got motion sick. I tried again weeks later and got motion sick again. I tried again, for a third time, last month and am currently 53 stars in and absolutely hooked.

Going on about other things that I was 'late to the party' for would necessitate my writing a much longer post than normal so I'm just going to end with this: The Wii U was the first console I bought on day one and may well be the last. I haven't bought a game on day one since roughly 2008 or 2009 either and the last 3 times I went to a movie theater, it was for midnight screenings of The Room, The Room and, Rocky Horror Picture Show.

I've only just started playing Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.
This somehow reminded me that I'm only just now playing Earthbound because virtual console.

I just played an Elder Scroll game for the first time in December when I bought Skyrim after playing a few minutes and watching my Brother in Law play on his 360 over Christmas. I have the PC version as I don't own a console. I bought Oblivion GOTY during the last Steam Sale so after I finish with Borderlands 2 I am moving on to that.

So, there's alot of media out there right now. ALOT of it. And no matter how much we try, we can't watch every show, or read every book, or play every game, etc.

But sometimes we hear nothing but good things about a particular movie/game/etc, but for one reason or another, we never get around to experiencing it ourselves.

This thread is talking about times where you experience something that everyone's been raving about for ages, but you feel like you're the last person on Earth who's seen it.

I'll admit, I'm only making this thread because this JUST happened to me. See... I just finished watching Gurren Lagann for the first time. I consider myself an anime fan, but I just never got around to Gurren Lagann for some reason.

I tried to start watching it a few months ago, but I got up to episode 5, and stopped (I really, really didn't like episode 5).

But last week I gave it another go, and just finished it this morning. That ending you guys... that ending. It caused me cheer with awesome, gave me feels, and made me manlier just by watching it.

I wouldn't say that Gurren Lagann is my favorite anime ever (if we're talking giant robot anime, I still prefer G Gundam, and if we're talking Gainax, I still prefer Panty and Stocking), but Gurren Lagann is definitely not an anime I'll be forgetting about soon.

What about the rest of you? Seen/played anything recently that everyone experienced forever ago, that you only JUST got into?
I actually finished Gurren Lagann just a few weeks ago. I experience basically all media late. I have a list of shows and movies to watch based mostly on what I find and what I hear about, regardless of age, along with a separate book list. Since I only became a anime fan a few years ago I have been going through a lot of the classics, and very little current anime. I also am watching Fringe on Netflix. I actually prefer late media, since there's less waiting around for new episodes/sequels, and its generally cheaper/easier to find. Its why I almost never pay more than 20 bucks for a video game. I can wait.

A friend of mine just linked me to a Gurren Lagann stream. Guess this is another thing that I get to see a little bit later than everyone else, knowing a few major points but watching it for the stuff in between.

I saw Firefly for the first time last year. I still have not seen pretty much every "you have to see this" movie. Unless it is from Disney. Disney makes up the bulk of movies I actually bother to see.

I am currently watching fmaB. I got the DVD years ago but was turned off because I thought after the opening episode it was gonna be the same as FMA but it isn't a terrible unconnected mess

For me? Doctor Who, starting from the '05 revival anyway, it was one of those shows that a whole mess of people around me were watching, but I just couldn't be bothered with it, I mean I'd sat with friends and watched Christmas Specials and my Father used to watch the show as a kid back in England so I had a base understanding of what was going on but it was just one of those shows I wasn't watching. Then a couple of weeks ago Series 1-5 came into my possession and I thought. "It's summer time, there's nothing else on, what the hell, I'll giver 'er a go!"

...

...

All I can keep repeating to all my friends that were watching from the beginning is. "Why in the hell didn't you people force me to start watching this sooner?!" I'm almost caught up now, but I feel like a bit of a boob for not watching sooner.

After three years, I finally watched Inception.
Heh. I still haven't seen Avatar.

I got into The Dillinger Escape Plan a couple of months back, they're fucking amazing. I'd actually barely heard of them, despite the infamous faeces incident at Reading in 2002 and being a fan of a lot of bands like Rolo Tomassi, Every Time I Die and Mastodon which all take a bit of influence from them and have actually collaborated with them. I have no idea why I didn't love them for years.

This happens to me with most stuff.
Basically only thing I've ever started watching when it came out was Supernatural but other than that, be it books, film, shows, games etc I very seldom get it at first launch.

I played Portal only a couple years ago, and by god, it was the most fun I'd had on my PC over the course of a couple hours.

Film-wise, I know everyone here would've watched the original Star Wars trilogy before they could wonder if Carrie Fisher was wearing a bra or not, but I only watched them in my late teens. Does that count?...(!)

You are not alone on that,as I would also consider myself a big anime fan, and I have never seen Gurren Laagan either. The big difference is that I still have not seen it though.

My big one is also Firefly, as even though I like sci-fi, I never bothered to watch it until this summer, mostly because the two hour first episode really turned me off. My friend eventually forced me to watch the first episode, and I enjoyed it. It is not my favorite television show, but I believe it is done well. That same friend also introduced me to Knights of the old republic recently, which I never played, even though I am a big RPG fan.

I just started watching Lost. All my friends from my Mario forum would be so proud if a time portal from 2005 opened up and they could see me now!

I played Quake for the first time today.

I also played Portal fairly late, and I only played half-life 1 this summer.

Just got into the Assin Creed series. Watched someone play the first one a few years ago, so picked up the second and Brotherhood recently for whatever reason.

Will probably wait another long while for Revelations and 3/4, though, it feels like the kind of game you can get permanently worn out by very quickly.

Most things I get into I pick up "just because" one random day without expecting anything.
