Those were rather awesome, though there was also chi-blocking and the buzz batons to even out the field. I think there's a passage from the Legend of Drizzt books that covers it well enough, where he's talking about the followers of Grond (I think) It basically boils down to the fact that when you're being taught to wield a blade (or bend in this case) you also learn when to wield it and self discipline. It's a rather good point, none builders can defeat benders in a fair fight, the chi blockers prove it.
I don't understand, what are you trying to say with the whole Grond and builders thing? You aren't making any sense to me, sorry. D:
Oops, forgot to add that he was in a tavern and he heard one talking about how this new invention he was working on (it was a gun, but barely described as one) and how it would make everyone equal. During one of his musings, Drizzt thought about how giving the people to cut others down with little to no training would be bad because it would give people power, but not the knowledge on when to use it.

The onion AV club has some fairly deep reviews of the Korra episodes and they talk about this: http://www.avclub.com/articles/and-the-winner-is,73716/

The relevant portion is the first paragraph:

We?re halfway through the first season, and it looks like it?s going to be a turning point; as Tenzin says, ?Republic City is at war.? Though the Equalist attack on the stadium is a big deal, the introduction of the electric gloves might be more significant, as they serve the same function as guns on a network that can?t show guns. And historically, the introduction of guns into a society is usually followed or accompanied by huge societal changes. Talking about the gloves, which can be hidden in a bag of popcorn and take out multiple cops, Amon says that ?now, anyone can hold the power of a chi-blocker in their hand.? Affordable, concealable, multi-shot guns like the Colt .45 revolver were known as the ?great equalizers? of the 19th-century American West, technology that evened out the advantages of those lucky enough to be born with physical strength. I?d bet that even the name ?Equalists? is a reference to this by the writers.

True, they can be equalizers. But it will still boil down to whoever is the better fighter/prepared to counter it winning. Most of the benders are just a short step away from being martial artists that wouldn't even have to rely on bending. So adding in the shock gloves does help even things out for now, but what happens if Amon gets his way and there are no more benders? Then most conflicts will probably be decided by the one that's better trained, which isn't changing much because the benders all had to train to fight well with their bending.

Ok both episode 7 links are now up, also there is a new edit at the beginning, but I'll resummarize here. I made a group for The Legend of Korra where I will be posting the episode links. I'll probably post them here for another 2 weeks so everyone who's gonna see the edit sees it, but after that I think they'll just be in the group.

I hope this series goes on for at least two seasons.

All this 'relationship stuff' upfront makes me wonder if they're trying to rush it because they're unsure if they'll get a 2nd or 3rd Season.

Man, this last episode was a doozy.

Also:

Chief Bei Fong: I'm going to find my metalbenders and take down Amon, but I'm going to do it my way. Outside the law!

Anyone else get instantly reminded of the first 10 seconds of the above video? I was half expecting her to metalbend the side of the airship open for no reason. :D

As far as I know, they have two seasons and then the show is done.

OT: No new episode next weekend :(

IIIRC, it was originally planned as a twelve-ep miniseries. The planned run has more than doubled since, and it's been given the option to renew.

It's only running for two seasons? Well shit... the one show I actually give a damn enough to try and catch each week and it's only got two seasons? D:

OT: Well, at this point short of a Chaos Space Marine band attacking Republic City I'm not sure how things can get any worse for Korra and her friends.

I knew it was originally "one" season, and then doubled. I hadn't heard about the option to renew. I dont know how I feel about that. On the one hand, it would be great if there was more Korra. On the other hand I can see a potential third season really messing with the story.

Cant believe the new episode came out this week. I thought it was going on a break. Cool.
Episode was great especially the scene that continues into the credits after the fight.

The show is just as great as Last Airbender.

I like that the Avatar is older and a girl. I hope she winds up with Bolin. He is basically Sokka and her character-typing doesn't fit well with Mako. Aang and Katara were together because Aang was more playful and less serious. Katara was almost the opposite. Korra, meanwhile, is mostly a serious character which means Bolin is a perfect match for her.

Amon just kicks ass all around as a villain. A kung-fu acupuncture specialist with a great motive. Also, the guy is a genuine badass, he can take on benders on his own! I think his background might have something to do with Ty Lee, the girl with acupuncture moves to disable bending in the first series. Did anybody else notice his permanent disable move is very similar to Aang's move on the Firelord at the end of the Last Airbender?
