The Legend of the Seeker is a tv series based off The Sword of Truth series by Terry Goodkind.

Now, recently I've had the misfortune of actually watching this tv show. To anyone who has seen the show, and read the book, the show is a complete disaster. It barely follows the original story. The only thing they got right is the characters names.

So what I was wondering, is peoples opinion on this? Or if you've had a similiar book ruined by some crappy tv show?

I don't know if anyone gets this, but you can't take a book and word-for-word transcribe it into a show. It would be...just boring...

Trust me. Just read a book, then get the reading for it.

The Sword of Truth (TV Series) is interesting, but I'm tired of people who moan and groan about how it doesn't follow the book. I don't care that it doesn't follow the book, at least if it doesn't follow the book I won't know what will happen next week. Also, if you don't like it, why are you giving it ratings (by watching it)?

I heard that, for someone who hasn't read the books, it's actually pretty good.

Me? I personally gave up after the second episode. The first episode (which was the length of two) covered about the entire first fourth of the book. I figured okay, maybe they'll spend more time on the rest. Then the next episode was COMPLETE FILLER. Yes, the entire next episode told a story that had never once been mentioned anywhere in the book. So they rushed through some incredibly important exposition only to waste the very next episode on filler. Um... FAIL.

EDIT: I don't mean to be one of those "it's sucks 'cause it's not exactly like the book" people. I don't think like that: I know changes have to be made. But there is an art to making good changes and making bad changes: certain things should be done and avoided to make a good transcription. Just like the Eragon and Dune movies failed miserably at this, so did Legend of the Seeker. Though, unlike those two, Legend of the Seeker is at least watchable.

Word for word? Yeah, I realize a series cant be taken word for word by the book.. But bloody hell this misses more things than a blind archer! First, Denee, shes seen at the start the tv show. In the book, you only find out about her around halfway through

Zedd, in the book Richard is his best friend. In the show, doesnt know him at all.

The Boundary/Quad. The Quad never followed Kahlan 'directly' through the boundary.

Richards father. He's still bloody alive! He's not alive in the book.

The book of Counted Shadows. In the series, Kahlan has said book. in the actual books, Richards father made him learn it by heart.

Those are all the holes I've managed to gather after watching just 20 minutes of it!

I hate the show. Hate. I'll admit, I probably would go a slight bit easier on the show if it followed the books' story more closely, but that's nowhere close to being the biggest problem.

The biggest problem is that no one, I repeat, no one that was casted fits the roles. You take away the characters, you kill the story, period. It doesn't help that the special effects are laughable and the acting and writing is very hammy.

Hate.

I don't know of any other novel-turned-TV series which has been even moderately successful. I've never read the book, and enjoy Legend of the Seeker immensely whenever it's on.

So what if it doesn't follow the plot of the book? The book is paced to keep someone reading it interested. The show is paced to keep someone watching it in week-long intervals interested. The pacing requirements are THIS FAR apart *spreads arms*. Why on earth would you expect it to be like the book? What would be the point of that? If you've any portion of imagination you can see it all happening in your head anyway. Much like the Lord of the Rings movies - they were as true to the books as they could be, and still some people didn't see the point of a movie displaying what they could already see quite clearly.

Legend of the Seeker is striking out a new path for itself. So maybe chill, just a little?

Well I'd expect it to be like the book because maybe it's based on the book? If they're trying to do something different with it, I suppose fair enough.

Guess I'm just a little angry that they've changed one of my favourite books to such a degree.

Haha this kind of rage is the best kind of rage.

I've never read the book and the TV show is cool. I think if the TV show was called "The sword of truth" then it wouldn't have any excuse to be so different, but seeing as its only "based" on, I feel that it has the right to differ a bit. How about stepping back and accepting that they are two different mediums and two different styles of entertainment.

Plus Bridget Regan is stunningly good looking. That helps too.

Dude, spoilers for those that haven't read the books. I have mind you, and I've been steered clear of LotS by every person that I know that's read the books. I'm not even curious as to how bad it is when everyone tells me it's bad.

Dude, they're not that much on Amazon, and well worth the money, which reminds me, I still need to actually buy the damn books.

I've never even seen LoTS, I've only read a couple of the plot synopsis, but I HAVE read the Sword of Truth series... the whole thing... first book included (obviously) and I have never in my entire life found an adaptation that SUCKED SO MUCH. Seriously speaking, it is a giant pile of random shit with the same character names to mask the fact that it is entirely different.
Denee is DEAD for one, you never meet her, quads are made up of only FOUR people, not four and a leader, just four, The Book is gone, ashes, dust, memories in Richards head, Richards hometown is NOT Brennidon, the is no "magic map maker" that is hired to track him, ect, ect, ect...

Well just in case you like the show "DRAKEN IS RICHARDS FATHER" . There you go, plot done. Also it felt to me like it was a really bad version of Xena, which was already a cheesy show.
