Like many, today I just got my copy of the Legend of Zelda Skyward Sword. I'm currently at the second temple (or "dungeon") and I think the game is fantastic. By far the best Zelda game. The combat is so smooth, amazing and engaging. It makes the fights like puzzles themselves, having to stop and observe your opponent. I give it 10/10. Also, the first boss fight with Ghirahim is quite possibly the one of my favorite boss fights ever.
But, what did YOU think of the game? Post below your opinions!

Oh my god, what a...completely weird Zelda game.

I'm madly in love with it in so many ways. Combat is super challenging, puzzles are just as hard, Ghirahim is shaping up to be a sick enemy, Zelda is worth saving for the first time since I was a kid with a crush on Zelda from OoT, and the artstyle is gorgeous.

Wii Motion Plus is amazing and completely reinvigorates Zelda in the best ways. If Mario is Nintendo's "prototyping franchise" where they test the waters of their tech, then Zelda is the "perfection franchise" where they hone it to a razor sharp edge. If Super Mario 3D Land is the first game to use 3D in a truly meaningful way, I can only shiver in anticipation for Zelda 3DS.

But at the same time, I find myself missing the classic overworld. The world feels disjointed. Flying is fun but there's nothing in the sky (so far, 4 hours in, beaten first dungeon) but maybe it's me coming off of Twilight Princess and right into this.

It's weird, but still amazing. I'm completely intrigued by it.

I didn't really like it. It seems a bit overrated how the reviews were so high. Just played and looked really dated. The only thing I liked was the art direction.

Rather far into it, quite impressed, the art direction is a real triumph, I have not been disappointed yet, not for a single moment. The Inner Cistern likely one of the greatest dungeons in the history of the series, asides from that, the game had an undeniable charm to it. Will likely have much more to say when I've cleared it.

I started playing it. I stopped playing before the first dungeon. I hate the motion controls for the flying game I really wanted to use the analog stick. It starts off very slow. I got bogged down in all of the dialogue at the beginning. Wind Waker had a slow start but the monotony was broken up with stuff to do. The same thing with Twilight Princess. This one had side quests at the beginning but it was just so dull.

I don't actually care for the combat, the wii motion plus is almost to sensitive, every little movement and link pulls out his sword, I can't get it to absorb light effectively (which your supposed to do by pointing the wii mote straight up) and the nun-chuck shield frustrates me.

Edit: Also I find the stick wagging irritates my carpel tunnel, not really the game's fault.

Aside from the controls and my personal issues with them, it's a great game.

The character design and art direction in this game is fantastic, but I find myself wishing that Nintendo would move onto HD. Not really for the graphics, as the stylization makes this world a lot more vibrant and interesting than Twilight Princess, but for the SOUND. I do love orchestra but the music compression really breaks my heart. The longer you play, the less the sound quality becomes an issue, but it was quite noticeable in the beginning. But it could be worse. It could be TP's incredibly dated MIDI synth.

Also, skulltulas are HARD. I already hate spiders, but now I hate spiders.

Challenging combat?

In a Zelda game?

That fixes the only flaw in the series for me!

MUST. BUY.

My current progress is just after the second boss. My mind is blown so far. Combat is unlike anything I've experienced. The only enemy that's 'waggle to win' is the slime. Everything else at least requires brief observation before attacking. It's moderately challenging too - My first few encounters with spiders and lizards almost killed me.

Puzzles are just as challenging - The first eye room in the first dungeon stumped me for five minutes. The solution blew my mind.

Ghirahim is surprisingly difficult for a first boss. He isn't a classic Zelda boss either. Second boss is classic Zelda and is easier than Ghirahim, but motion controls still make the fight interesting and engaging.

Fi is just as annoying as Navi though.

I find it great but for some reason this game kills my right shoulder, I have an old injury and this game sets it of so I can't play for long before I have to stop. O find it rather fun, the game is rather self-aware so it does have some good humor. I find the controls a little to sensitive but it just might be me having the sensitivity to high. I try to to do something and it registers something which makes things hard sometimes. The graphics don't bother me none but I wish the wii had some hardware power enough for AA, the jaggies are annoying but this is me nagging, not game breaking.

So far I'm in love with this game. I'm not too far into it, about to head towards the second dungeon, but I'm having fun with the combat and the story so far. The nunchuck works so much more fluidly than it did for Twilight Princess, but I'm having a bit of trouble with the sword. It might just me having to get used to it being more accurate, but Link likes to swing diagonally when I try to swing horizontally. Especially fighting Deku Babas. I also had trouble quickly switching to a different swing type(I.E. having my sword posed for a left swing then trying to switch to an uppercut or a right swing), which made fighting the first boss a pain.

This is arguably the slowest start I've ever seen for a Zelda game, but I was never bored or wanted to play something else during the entire time. It's also got the most realistic world since Majora's Mask, since characters will actually walk around and do different things depending on if it's day or night, and even different things for different days. Also seeing Beedle make a comeback made me have a huge grin on my face.

So far, it's got a 9.5/10 but it still has plenty of chance to impress me still(or as the case may be for me to improve my sword fighting :p)
