Here's an image that is representative of 99% of London:

Seriously, I was in Croydon today. Some idiots had burned a load of twigs in the middle of the roundabout. When I went through Lewisham, I did indeed see (a) car(s) that had been set on fire. One car(s), to be exact. It was not a war zone. The media are, by definition, sensationalist and given to vastly exaggerate the problem. I just wanted to note that, for the vast majority of Londoners, the riots have made almost no difference, and that the reactions I've seen from most people seem to be formed out of the mistaken belief that the entire city has gone up in flames.

*Looks at TV* Hmm, the pictures of the burning buildings I'm seeing disagree with you here. I doubt that's just a "load of twigs."

I was in Croydon c. 5PM, and it looked slightly less impressive than the average bonfire.
Check BBC News 24 now, it's now slightly more impressive then the average bonfire. :p

In fairness, it'll be easier for you to say that not being in an area which is having the buildings looted and burnt.

Yup, exaggerated, of course, I suppose that fire blazing over the horizon not long ago was just someone having a late night bbq :/

I think this has all flared up tonight, around 10/11pm, that's why you've missed it. I was talking to my girlfriend who is pretty close to the riots but not close enough to be worried about them, she told me to check the news, first thing I saw was a whole section of buildings burning. But they do seem to have some sections under control now so hopefully this will be sorted out soon. But knowing this country...probably not. :p

From what I heard, It's only Tottenham that's burning and that was from a 6 o'clock news program in Australia.

In the videos I get that the riot police aren't doing anything. Violence only breeds more violence, but why have them what appears to be standing in the middle of where the rioting is occurring, why not just have them block of sections on stop the riots from spreading past that.
