The Machinima Community??

Is it just me or has it gone up it's own arse a bit over the years?

I uploaded a short video (which I removed because I needed to do an audioswap which I DID NOT WANT) recently as my first attempt at a gmod video and people started flaming me for what I had done. I agree it's nothing special as it IS my first ever attempt at any kind of gmod video, but seriously, the kind of comments I was getting were a bit uncalled for.

I remember the time when simplicity ruled and those random gmod videos (contraptions that were sometimes a bit faulty, random explosions, GIANT CHEST CANNON WIELDING ROBOTS etc.) were regarded as funny by the general population of the internet, now it seems that people will not stop at hanging you for making such a thing.

and I'm not talking about anything to do with sketches that seems to be the popular thing at the moment in gmod. They are completely different to what I am trying to achieve.

The Machinima community [I find] is soooo used to shitty comedy in Halo 3 [Ph33r] that that's all it wants anymore. Sure, it might accept a new engine, but trying something new, unless it's already popular, is taking a big risk with that community. I myself recently got signed on to Machinima.com, and I'll be opening with something I know they'll like, before moving my own way.

Just make them without BGM, or BGM thats specifically stated to be available for use.
Its not that hard to come by.

Also, just view a Machinima makers channel on Youtube, and go look at how they started. Its always rather primitive.

There is so much shit on machinima though, the video game commentaries are the most popular because they are easy, require no skill and for some reason idiots watch them

I love gmod vids and i wood like to see your vids...

From what I watched, the good gmod videos aren't even part of machinima.com

all I see on machinima channel on youtube is retarded halo "comedy" and gameplay commentaries that anyone and their mothers could do...

I'll be honest, the only Machinima videos I watch would be the ones by Rooster Teeth (mostl Red Versus Blue). So yeah, I really haven't noticed the rest of the community, and the RvB videos don't get much hate from what I can tell.

Yeah, but you can't call that stuff "simple". I mean they have Monty Qym pulling out CGI with motion capture. Not many Machinima's have the talant (No offence) or the budget to pull that off.

once I get a good track to put it to and get back to my home PC, I will reupload it (and I will edit a few bits and pieces, as I think some of the cameras could've been set up better for example)

To be fair though, they've only got Monty now in the latest series. But I'll agree that their stuff isn't as ''simple'', seeing as it is their job and they've been doing this since the first Halo.

True. I think it's fair to say that their "skills" have been improving since Halo 1 and that the CG is just the next "step." (And a great improvement IMO.) Though to be fair, they are a business now. It's their job now to make Machinima and as such they have to put more effort into it.

Reason: I really don't know. I could theorize that it's a sort of "RvB" effect. That if your machinima isn't professionally made you can GTFO but I don't think that is the case. Whatever the reason the whole thing is stupid.

that's exactly the kind of thing that I liked in gmod vids before everyone went "professional" and got very pretentious...
