I recently downloaded the Marathon games off the internets and I have a couple of questions:
Marathon and Marathon 2 have weird controls and when I try to open "Preferences" they crash. Also, how do you open doors in Marathon Infinity?

Well, well, well. We have a newcomer to the world of obscure and hard-to-play games!

We have jackets over on the coffee table.

As for Marathon, may I ask what versions you have, or possibly HOW you got a hold of them? Partly out of curiosity, partly out of want, and partly trying to help.

Something about AlephOne or whatever. I forget where I downloaded them. But I do remember just googling "marathon download".

It crashes at the preference screen? That never happened with me. I don't know what to tell you. Maybe its the OS, you using Windows 7?

Alephone
The games went freeware a long while back. Mac native, but have been ported to Windows.

If you want help with this problem, your best bet is here, [http://www.pfhorums.com/] as all of the Alephone developers hang out there and are pretty good about answering questions.

Well, as much as I look forward to playing one of the beloved relics of my childhood, it doesn't seem to be installing correctly.

As for @relevantcore , I'd go with this:

Did you install AlephOne and the game files? You need both for the games to run properly.

I extracted the game files first, then placed the AlephOne files inside the game folder. Worked like a charm.

Tab opens doors. You can just configure controls at the main menu screen anyway.

..Great, another reminder of 3 more games sitting around on my desktop waiting for me to get to them. Geez, I am but a man! (damned steam sales)

Nope, on the default controls, tab brings up the map. As for the preferences, there is no control titled "open door" or anything, but there is an action key, but that doesn't seem to open doors.
