We must have all done something stupid in the chemistry lab.

I have two examples
*Picking up a crucible after I'd made some glass in said crucible, I wanted a closer look and only realised after about ten seconds that it was really, really hot.
* Inhaling concentrated ammonia during a silver halide test, that was the most painful experience in my entire life.

So, what "accidents" have you had in the Chemistry lab?
The "chemistry lesson". Me and my partner jake managed to break pretty much everything. We had to bubble gas from a heated test tube into cold water, dont ask me how but i managed to get ice cold water into a boiling hot glass test tube. Explosion ensued. Glass went pretty much everywhere. Then the time we heated that test tube till it literally blackened and bent at a 30 degree angle, or the time that beaker exploded from heat/cool swap that time we tested the effect of heat/catalysts on a certain reaction. That was also a cool explosion.

Or the time i accidently mixed hydochloric acid with a pretty potent alkali, the resulting foamy brothy explosion ending up all over my hands and shoes. It was green cus of the indicator. Funzies. My various chemistry teachers liked me cus i was good at it, but knew id manage to break something.

Or the hilarious time jake got concentrated hydochloric acid on my stuff, bleaching it white and causing the ink to react with it, i couldnt touch it to clean it so we had to leave it under a tap all lesson until i got my now white pencil case back. Or the time magniesium spat a flaming piece of magniesium oxide at jake and burnt a whole through his trousers. Also hilarious.

Or the time grace lent over the bunson burner and burnt a two pound coin sized hole in her jumper. I dont think she got a new one.

Oh the fun of second year GCSE higher science. They thought because we were smarter we would be more carefull. They were wrong.

- Spilt some glacial acetic acid on my pants which dried into the fabric. Didn't notice it, put pants in the washing machine, acid reacted with washing powder, pants turned black, needed new pair of pants.

- Was peforming some sort of test, was supposed to pour reagent in slowly and mix gradually, poured the whole lot in at once, formed a 2-layer suspension, stoppered the flask, shook once and immediately regretted it. The reaction produced alot of heat and created a tar like black substance that stained my gloves, the glassware and my lab bench permanently.

Never actually broken any glassware or anything before though...
