I watched some video trailers for the Max Payne movie which came out this month and wanted to see what other people thought of it.
By the looks of the trailers... not so good, it looks dull and looks like it is loosely based on the Max Payne games... considering bloody Jim Bravura is played by Ludacris... Jim in the games was a chubby white guy who shouted "MAX PAYNE!?" alot.

anyway... what do you think?

Mark Wahlberg just looks too harmlessly cute to play the leading role in a gritty action film. The trailers I've seen remind me too much of Constantine to excite any particular interest on my part.

It would be very interesting to me if the scenes with the flying valkyrie creatures etc. were metaphorical and the entire movie was about a mental descent into rage and madness, but I sincerely doubt anyone in Hollywood is that subtle. :D

uhhhhhh

its a bit less than average

if youre a big fan of the game, you probably won't be pleased

A. Bad character/Actor choices (Besides Walhberg as Payne, that worked, and Mila Kunis...she's hot)

B. Plot is too simple, the twist was "meh"

C. Story was lacking and the deliverance was pretty slow

I had hoped so much for this movie, maybe thats why I didn't like it

I thought the trailers were great

I went in with low expectations, and really enjoyed it. They had like six people working on snow effects and they did an awesome job with that. It's not the best movie out there and I hate the end (and the end after the credits) but I'd still see it again.

I haven't seen the film yet, but from that I assume I should approach it the same way I approached the latest Indiana Jones film. I should go in, expecting a video game movie with a wobbly narrative but with some great bangs and crashes, not have any hopes dashed and thoroughly enjoy watching the film in doing so.

I thought it was a sequel to Constantine, oh and:

You guys better come see my movie or I'll smash your head in. I produce entourage you know, you ever seen that show? alright, well say hi to your mother for me
SNL FTW.
It seems like it could be good to me, I didn't start playing M games till I got my 360 so I've never played the Max Payne games, from what I've heard it's fairly faithful to the game. And hey, at least it's not Uwe Boll, right?

Yeah, pretty much. I enjoyed this a lot more than Indy 4 though. A lot more stylish, and a lot less Shia.

Style counts for a lot when you're watching a film. So does a distinct lack of Shia.

Exactly! And this is why it's worth the ticket price. Hell, I'd probably pay half the ticket price to see this one shot where he's firing a shotgun in slow motion.

...what? There is a scene where he fires a shotgun in slow motion? I'd pay double the ticket price to see that one scene. After all, what is Max Payne without bullet time?

He's also leaping backwards, and firing at a man above and behind him. Man, now I want to see it again. I'll just be over here reminding myself of the bad dialogue so I don't spend all my money...

Well, of course there will be bad dialogue. This is Max Payne we're talking about. However, the shotgun scene now sounds like the greatest human endeavour in all recorded history.

Well, you're clearly not the one being paid by the producers to promote the film.
No, you are! It's all a conspiracy! (Get out while you can, other forum goers!)

I went and saw it opening night with some friends. I didn't know it was even playing yet and I walked in with my friends for the hell of it and we were bored. The movie was one big "meh" to me. The acting was okay, from what my friend told me, it didn't follow the game (no surprised there). The trippy CGI scenes felt out of place and just overall too weird. The story was average, not really grabbing the audience, and some of the action scenes were painfully bad.

I will admit the shotgun bullet time thing was funny, but that's because the guy he was shooting at had NO FUCKING AIM at all. It was an okay movie, watch it yourself if your interested, but as I feared, it seemed to fall into the same pit of medicament as any other video game movie.
