Well I am a big fan of mechanical keyboards

So far i have

IBM Model M
IBM Model F (AT)
Northgate onmikey ultra T (Real white alps)
2x Dell AT102 W( black alps)
Compaq branded G80 with trackball (MX brown)
Razer BWU ( MX blue)

I also have a set of 13 portal key caps with everything form cake to turrets on them a riddler ? and a red esc key ( all mx compatible)

List of keyboards I want are

KBC Poker with MX red (retro style PBT caps)
IBM model f terminal 122 key
Somthing with old MX blacks

Does anyone else have this strange obsession with keyboards

I was very tempted by the mechanical keyboards back when I was periphery buying, but opted for a cheaper Razer Arctosa instead. Better than all the reviews indicated as well :)

I had no luck asking on here about mousemats though, which I find very interesting.

Mechanical is more expensive and doesn't offer any benefits that I am physically capable of noticing. I like digital media keys and programmable macros too much to give up my Logitech G series setup.

I have an Adesso mechanical keyboard that feels pretty nice. I like the clicky nature of the keys compared to the mushy regular keyboards, but I do wish it had some media or peripheral keys.

I have a Model M and a Unicomp knock-off of an M-13 that I rarely use.

The Model M's outlasted a half dozen computers at least and will likely outlast me--assuming I ever get around to buying an active USB converter (the typical passive ones don't work, you see). That PS/2 port is gonna disappear someday...

Kawai upright acoustic :p

Though I could definitely use some input about a good keyboard, since I rather like the electronic MIDI ones with different instruments.

Me thinks some people are a bit confused as to what the OP was talking about...

Mechanical keyboards are rather interesting. Nothing like a strong tactile feedback when pressing a key, is there? And that 'clack', like you're using a typewriter, brings back warm fuzzies from when I was younger. Wish I could afford one.

What is the advantage of mechanical keyboards (besides feeling superior to the majority of users of /g/)? I just go with a Logitech bluetooth combo that connects a wireless mouse and keyboard through the same dongle. It's a really sweet keyboard and hasn't let me down so far.

This was the first mechanical keyboard thread I saw so it seemed appropriate to put this here, but if you're looking to buy a mechanical keyboard, you can get the nighthawk X8/9 from maxkeyboard.com for ~30 bucks cheaper if you join this group buy thread http://www.forums.custompcreview.com/f75/max-keyboard-group-buy-thread-8-a-1071/
And, here's a link to the X8 if you wanna check it out

I have a *deep breath* Cooler Master Storm Quickfire Rapid (Red Switch). I got it for reliability, and because it is tenkeyless. I find TKL keyboards much more comfortable and I have a wireless numberpad if I should ever need it. I can't type so the reds are a good match for me, nevertheless I find the solidity of the key presses to make my multi-fingered pecking much more assured... I was going to pimp it out with white keys (it has a particularly ugly keycap font) but I've grown accustomed to it now. I would still like to try out those rubberised WASD keys for the Corsair K60 though.
