Are you kidding? The media LOVES us. We're their current domestic bogeyman to point at and scream "THEY WANT TO KILL YOUR CHILDREN, TUNE IN AT 11 IF YOU WANT YOUR BABIES TO SURVIVE!". Nothing better to drive up ratings than another "expose" on those "crazy gamers".

The media sees us gamers as violent murder junkies, getting high off death.
And in my opinion, we are. BUT only in games. If someone kills someone else in a horrific way and blames a game, then they are stupid, if the media believes them, they are even stupider.

In real life im a harmless person and was brought up by my father to beleive that all people are equal and should be treated with respect.

But in a game like fallout 3 im mostly the bringer of death, killing people in the most imaginative way possible so i can show my friends. Why? you ask, because its a GAME. Something not real, based on the imagination of the games developer.
Its a good stress reliever after a hard day.
For example: my friends girlfriend dumped him a while back so i invited him over for a Halo marathon, a game he loves but gets trashed by me at it. I let him win every time, dieing in spectacular ways, and he felt marginally better the next day.

I rambled on for a bit there didnt i?
The point im trying very hard to make, is that games dont kill people, people do.

P.S ! i suppose that if the media wants to rip on a game for being gory i say let them. Its a good headsup for gamers who havent seen it yet so they can go and research said game a little then decide whether they may want to buy it.
So really media, your helping us. Thanks :D

The media doesn't know much about the gaming community. They seem to depict us all as a bunch of brainless sheeple who can't distinguish between reality and fantasy and that we're so desensitized to violence that we run around believing that blood and guts is COOL and the more body parts go flying, the better.

That's my opinion, anyway...
You are probably correct there.

Oh, and add in the fact we obviously are all rapists and child molesters.

And the fact we're obviously all twelve and not adults, because we are playing VIDEO GAMES that MUST be made for children!

I'm working on a research paper for my college english class and I need some input. The topic I selected is "The influence of the media on the general perception of video-gaming as both a hobby and as an industry". Essentially I will be using some examples of how the public perception of video gaming is skewed by the media to show the effect that the media has on a nation's populous.

So, please feel free to post your own personal thoughts on the issue as well as any news articles or videos that show how the media is able use gaming as a scapegoat.
We are the easiest scapegoat, the opposing are to ignorant and hard headed to listen to logic, therefore should not be taken with a grain of salt. Hows that for your concluding sentence.

I personally feel that the media isn't out against "video games" but just newer forms of entertainment. In the past it was fear of music, burning records for being 'satanic' and having naughty lyrics. Now it's video games, since they've entered the mainstream and are quite different from games of the past. Paul Anka compared to the Rolling Stones compared to Frank Zappa compared to Public Enemy compared to Eminem was the olden days. Now it's Pong compared to Doom compared to Grand Theft Auto.
