I like threads that are controversial enough to warrant discussion but not so much that its painful

I also like those incredibly short lived threads that just explode into insanity and disappear just as quickly

there was one poor guy who might have been satire on "every internet writer" who started a discussion then flipped out as soon as someone gave him some feedback...the thread got locked but I archived it

Well I never meta thread I didn't like!

Sorry, couldn't help myself...

Actually, I'm not sorry. I made a pun. Deal. {grin}
I've never understood why people find puns so terrible.

Me either. With all the crass, crude and awful things that pass for jokes now a play on words is considered "the lowest form of humor". Really?
Personally, I think "your mama" jokes are the lowest form of humor.

I feel a certain amount of guilt if a thread falls under one of my professed areas of expertise (such as ancient comics or ancient anime) and I don't attempt to answer questions people have about the subject. I like threads that make me think.
How ancient are we talking?

"Bif! Bam! Bonk!" or Frank Miller's Happy-Go-Lucky Grit Hour?
Somewhere in between those two... from about 1980 to about 2000 with a lot of my "expertise" stemming from actually having read DC comics' Who's Who and The Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe.

Oddly specific answer before bed:
I like the threads complaining about users having GIFs as their avatars.
Because every response is from someone with a GIF avatar.

I love the ones where people talk about themselves or their lives.

I think it makes everyone here a bit more personable and relatable. They usually contain less drama than some other genres of threads.

I'm also incredibly nosey. XD
I seem too recall we spent a lot of time discussing other peoples business that night in the dorm! :p I too like these threads. Especially the picture ones and the ones where people show off their possessions! It's awesome to see what people have picked up on their travels!

I also love threads where people talk about little moments in games that make them smile... be it funny glitches, moments they remember, times they failed and the like! It's cool to know that other people have stuff like that happens to them too, and I don't have anyone around me IRL that I can talk to about that kind of stuff, so you cyber dudes are the best I have!

I have also found new music that I have loved and downloaded from listening to it in Music threads... Godspeed You: Black Emporer and Mogwai specifically have been personal favourites!

Threads started by people with ten billion posts. It might be my imagination, but those always seem to draw in the other people with six trillion posts, and then it all snowballs from there as we lesser peasants join in, if at all.

I'm just being silly, of course.

Hard to say what threads grab my attention. Ones in which I feel like I have something relevant to say. I guess topics that don't require a terrible lot of articulation to post about?
I'd venture to guess it's because they know each other. Most of the big posters I think are so big because of usergroups. I know that's where my post count comes from. It shoots up that number like crazy.

If it weren't for The Injustice League[footnote]Which is a good bunker to talk in when the forum shit hits the fan[/footnote] my post count is only like 2000 or 3000 I think. Less if forum games posts don't count.

That's why I tend to steer clear of political/SERIOUS threads.
Not that I don't read, I love seeing others views on things.
I just don't participate.
I'm the same way. I love reading through the more serious threads, but I often feel like I don't know enough to be justified in giving an opinion or it's take too much effort to articulate my thoughts on the matter.

I feel like I learn a lot from them though, in spite of what the naysayers will say about the quality of discussion in some of these threads. :D

I love puns and wordplay's.
Seeing the connotations and possibilities available is not "crude", it's rather cunning actually.
I don't understand the hate either.

That's exactly it. I couldn't have said it better. ^^

Anything where people discuss the best of pop culture in ridiculously over-analytical terms. Also a good hypothetical "x versus y" thread, where people discuss things like who would win in between something like the Galactic Empire and the Reapers (Empire no contest FYI).
"Rudimentary creature of blood and flesh, you touch my mind, fumbling in ignorance, incapable of understanding."

In any number of ways the Reapers would bring the Emperor, the Empire to its knees.

On topic, no idea. My threads rarely get to 2 pages.

What, no! Don't leave! How will I know if it's you that's posting and not you?!

OT: I like threads with cute animals, cute cartoons, or both. Most threads concerning video games, too, though I prefer the positive ones. I see something like, "Is X bad?" and I get turned off. They can be productive, though, and I learn something from them if I try hard enough.

I do avoid most R & P and some of the more controversial threads; I just don't have the patience to form my own opinion on those topics!

You'll know if it's me posting and not me posting if you remember this clip as you read any of my (or my) post:
Just replace Lelouch with me and Suzaku with me and it should make sense afterwards...
