I'm a dwarf at heart. I like colonizing caverns and digging for minerals.

Mostly because I find the surface world very very bland. On very rare occasion I'll get a world that dumps me in some nice cliffy areas or small desolate islands, but for the most part it's just rolling hills. Plus what few minerals are in the game are largely essential for construction.

I have trouble devoting time to any mega-project. I just never found a point to make something extravagant that no one else is going to see and explore. So it's mostly just functional dwellings.

I still plan on making a "Railercoaster". Plenty of ups and downs, twists and turns, even going underground and maybe even underwater! It shall be the best wooden roller coaster ever!

Alright then. As soon as I get my new graphics card, I'll give that a shot :D

Also, we've recently been experimenting with self-building/repairing bridges and buildings using pistons.

Far and away the most impressive thing however is a setup a friend made in a shallow lake with cleverly hidden holes in the sand. When a series of switches are flipped in the right order in a control room, skeletons from a nearby dungeon are held in place in chutes and then loosed through the holes. They float up to the surface while Moonlight Sonata starts playing in an underground music room. The effect is absolutely breathtaking - observers just start hearing haunting music as a huge swarm of skeletons start climbing out of the water.

I've been nagging him to make a video, so I'll link it when it's done.
That sounds insane. Get that vid up as soon as possible! :O

First things first, you need to build a bunch of furnaces, say a half dozen or so, and you'll need a tree farm. You need a good amount of trees to convert to charcoal to power the furnaces, because you'll want to smelt cobblestone and sand to make smooth stone and glass. You'll also want a hidey hole or a hovel or something if you are playing on survival.

I've been playing solo since just before the Alpha ended and last week I joined a SMP game with a couple of mates that I didn't realise were Minecrafters. It has increased my enjoyment of the game a lot, and I always enjoyed it far more than I should.

They have been playing on this server for a couple of months and have made some massive towers and extensive tunnel systems. There was no way I was going to be able to construct anything that grand so I made a more modest home by creating a 25 block diamater voxel sphere out of glass with a couple of internal floors. It looks pretty cool, but the top half is bio-dome that is proving tricky, as I want a big tree in the centre and I can't seem to get one happening even with a tree booster tube.

I still have to finish the last two layers of the sphere and raise my biodome lighting a little, then make a grass bridge to make my dirt floor green. After that it will be a matter of making more secure defenses, incorporating a mob killer to gather a bit more loot, then make a cart station, because one of the guys is linking everything with powered rails. *Deep breath* It never ends.

I also want to sneak away to an island I can see from my sphere and make a bunch of darwinians. ;P

How long till work ends and the kids are in bed? too long.

i will admit that does look really spiffy, you have just kindled a new motiavtion for me to get back into minecraft, i had built a ridiculous amount of tunnels undeground the main island and had a huge castle, but a house like that with a sunrise? that's something i'm looking forward to working towards

Too long indeed. Also, thanks for the advice. I've already got one of the towers finished. Gotta work on the other one. Then its to build the gigantic lighthouse out near the entrance of the bay.

I'm actually really glad I could give you some motivation :3
I find it weird yet surprising, how someone who builds and constructs castles and giant projects gets inspired by something more simple with a peaceful sunrise, But it's a good thing!

I won't submit my shaders just yet, till I fix a few bugs, but the texture pack is awesome ^-^

See, this is what this topic is for! Giving each other inspiration and helping others on things.

On that note, I cannot, for the life of me, make a circle in minecraft. Anyone have any tips on how I could do that?

Got this game now for about one and a half week and good gosh is this game evil - it ate up almost all my time and reduced my sleep to about 6 hours a day. Only now do I begin to get a tad bored and can finally motivate myself to do some other stuff that really has to be done now....

But dammit... I got so many cool ideas I have realized and still want to realize! Here's the list:

Built

- A monastery-like walled compound on a mountaintop including: A garden-area, a chapel of sorts with a glass roof and huge windows, a subway access, a solitary tower on a nearby mountaintop connected via a bridge and some basement rooms that serve as my home and lead out behind a waterfall.
- Central Subway System Hub below the monastery. I replicated the train switching system in this video here [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TNhc4ZTv034] and applied it to my hub, meaning you can change which direction you want to go without taking another track.

Building

- Completion of the Subway System
- A huge tower made entirely of glass built on top of the solitary tower of the monastery.
- A dock for the monastery, complete with a docked ship.
- Monastery Main Base: A subterranean huge pyramid made of stone that I want to turn into some kind of Hanging Gardens - Underground!

Future Prospects

- An english-style mansion plus a huge garden area. I'am thinking along the lines of the castle Versaille gardens here.
- After seeing this video [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VFZKtvHQSNY] of the effects of a huge ball of TNT on Youtube I really want to built some ruined city at the edge of the resulting crater telling the story of the huge catastrophe nearby. Also I want to go a bit Sci-fi-esque with that crater and build some sort of huge - seemingly floating - city inside it
- A Volcano Fortress full with Lava-lakes, Lava-falls and Lava-rivers. In terms of style I want to go with the final part of Moria in the LOTR Movies here.

I also really need to try and get some of those awesome mods to work with my system - due to that sucky black screen crash I don't seem to be able to get the mods to work like they should. Annoying.

That one really caught my attention. Sounds absolutely awesome, but will take a while to gather up all the tnt required without inventory hacking D:

My ambitions are fairly small right now. I've just finished construction of a small fishing lodge by the sea as a sort of "Holiday Home" away from my main base. back at base I've finished work on my big Greenhouse which I've planted lots of Wheat and Sugar so I won't be going hungry any time soon.

You've been having that problem as well? Have you looked into fixes for it. I managed to fix mine, but then I'm not using any mods.

Me and a friend of mine built a cloud made out of wool with a house on top on the escapecraft server^^ were planning on making another larger cloud with a casttle of some sort on top. who knows maybe someday it will be a vast cloud kingdom! :) We have over 4 stacks of wool now so after a few more hours of killing sheep we should be ready ^^

Oh that reminds me of my jetsons house I was building. No grass unfortunately, had to build a dirt ramp up so the grass would grow. I don't have any pics though, because that was the day that my hard drive died on me. Lost everything. Apparently minecraft doesn't store your worlds serverside, like I thought it did.

Well, I don't intend to spend the next 20 years hunting creepers in Minecraft. Although, a job description like that sounds rather awesome ^^

As far as I understood it, it has something to do with the memory management of Minecraft AND Java in 64bit versions of Windows. I installed Zan's Minimap mod and Minecraft exactly ran for about 2 minutes or so and then crashed instead of the usual hour it would take. Playing in the browser, however, eliminates the issue completely for me but Minecraft outright refuses to start if I use any mods - so it seems I have to play in vanilla until that bug is fixed :p. Maybe I can find some other workaround if I devote some more time into it....

That seems to be the problem. Luckily installing the 64-bit Java SDK seemed to fix the issue for me. Notch says 1.6 will be focused mainly in fixing bugs. With that Bug one of the major goals. So hopefully everything will be sorted out soon.

haha i do appreciate even the small things =] in your pic everything just looked so breathtaking, sure on a large scale my stuff is awesome but its more of a "oh FUCK that's huge!" rather than a "wow..."

just downloaded all the texture mods and patches, and this is what i have to say:
