Lyri was almost eaten by an alot. Luckily 2fish rushed in and saved Lyri with literally the best sword ever. 2fish was wearing the objectively most stylish shoes in the room. 2fish?s sword was all irony.

Remember that we are changing the meaning of these words so from now on we must use the revised meanings.

A new phrase:

'Per Say'

A corruption of per se by people who are not well read enough to have actually seen it in text or have any knowledge of latin!

Strawman - Noun

A statement characterized by being a counter-argument.

I don't think most people know what they mean when they say it. Hell, I don't even know what it means. It just screams "Look at me and this new word I learned! I'll try to sound intelligent when actually I'd never use this word in real life, just petty forum arguments!"

Gonna go ahead and agree with these.

I learned that word probably about 20 years ago, and never--LITERALLY never--heard the word again until I discovered the Escapist. Since then, I've heard it at least once a month. You can't find a thread with an argument and not see "Strawman" pop up at least 3 times per page. If the Escapist had a mascot, it'd b one of these guys:

Perhaps you keep seeing the term because so much of arguing on the Net involves people making them. Just look at any big argument about sexism, feminism, ism'ism -- it's all people beating up the bogeyman versions of things they are upset about. That's what it is. But yes, it does get used too much when an actual description of WHY would be more valuable.
