I was playing gran turismo 6 doing a challenge race. Basically challenge races disqualify you if you go off the track or have a collision with another vehicle. Everytime I play this one race I always lose because im in the lead and at a certain corner I always take a wider line than the game tells me but the NPC takes the racing line and always crashes into me thus disqualifying me for having a collision. As far as im aware the car overtaking usually takes the blame unless the car infront intentionally steers into them which I obviously didnt do

So what are your stories about annoying NPCs?

N.b. in before someone mentions big smoke from san andreas "just follow the fucking train CJ"

Yeah that's some pretty shat programming. I feel your pain. I've been playing Grid 2 recently and the collision DQs are annoying and they're not even the AIs fault. I can only imagine getting punished for someone's coding.

The "Yeah?" shark at the Arcade in Earthbound annoys me because he has no purpose. He just runs into you and says "Yeah?" if you walk into the arcade. Why? What the hell's the point of that?

Also every character in Dragon's Dogma for coming across like a combination of a puppet and rejects from a Renaissance Fair in a town nobody wants to live in.

"Shall we check thyne tower for dreadful foes beyond ser? Tis mine folly!"

NOBODY TALKED LIKE THAT EVER. WHAT ARE YOU EVEN SAYING? *burns a cardboard cutout of Ryu as an act of Capcom protest*

I hear you from Dark Souls, Shakespearean wannabes who have obviously never read or seen the old S-Dog.
OT: The police in GTA V. Somehow they have vehicles that can drive faster than super-cars with full upgraded engines, and one little bump causes the crappy car physics in most cars to flying miles or at least spin like a fairground ride.
Or Arkham Asylum where the goons just run at you but never actually attack causing some crazy clusterfuck of pacifism.

-"Stop by Mick & Ralph's for all your shopping needs!" - THAT KID, and everyone at that street corner for that matter.

-Maven Blackbriar, for being essential and disrespectful.

-Cutscene Lara Croft in TR2013. Stop contradicting everything I am doing.

Although, he can probably be excused because he was made to be exactly that: annoying.

I'll second the Dragon's Dogma pawns, though. Generally they don't bother me, but when they get stupidly repetitive and don't take their own advice they get really infuriating.

Three Dog. He's always passing judgement on the Lone Wanderer, while he's just chilling in GNR protected by the white knights of the wasteland.

I fucking warned you.

After getting that out of the way... Most annoying NPC aside from would probably be any of the Fable non-story NPC's. There's a good reason my "Hero" lived long enough to become the villain, and decimating the population of Albion for their asinine requests and total lack of respect for dick and fart humor was the only solution to the madness that plagued him.

NPCs in escort quests.

Tutorial NPCs - drove me nuts having to go through all the fucking dialogue the owl in Ocarina a Time hands out not to mention the change of skipping through the dialogue too eagerly only to ask him to repeat everything he just said....

Why has no one mentioned Slippy Toad? Or Otus from Dead Rising? Neither of them ever shut up, they never have any useful information to impart regardless of how much they talk, and neither of them is of any use whatsoever in combat. They even have the gall to complain at you for shooting them out of the sky/hanging up on them. Granted Otus might be more annoying. Slippy may be grating at best but at least you can shut him up for a while by shooting him a lot. Otus is unkillable until you enter a certain mode.

The civilians in Assassin's Creed games. Ever notice how when armed conflict occurs in the streets, the number of civilians in the way rarely diminishes? As near as I can tell, that's because they yo-yo between running away and toward (or even through) the fight. Okay, maybe the devs were just lazy. But what's this? New recruits always seem to know how to run away from an area and stay away, which means the devs could have had the civilians do that, but chose not to. Between that and the beggars/lepers being replaced with minstrels which have absolutely no purpose but to annoy us, I'd say the AC devs are intentionally trolling the player.

Rosh Fucking Penin from Jedi Academy. He's like Anakin from the prequels, but even MORE of a whiny little *****.

When he isn't being completely useless, he's moaning about his training, shamelessly brown-nosing his tutors, or trying to get the player killed. His insipid dialogue alone will make you want to shove your lightsaber right up his ass. Luckily,
you can do just that if you choose to join the Dark side (okay, it's through the chest instead of the ass, but I suppose it'll do).

Bethesda RPGs have a problem with repetitive dialogue, far too often NPCs will just spout the same drivel on end until you want to hammer their heads in so that they'd shut up.

Also, according to Jontron, this one hercules RPG has the most dickheaded NPCs in any game ever, I can't judge, but from his video, I'd say that his statement is quite true:

That right there is exactly what I came here for. I'm certain they did that to intentionally be f*cking annoying. It's the only feasible explanation. It was worse in the 1st one though - especially in Acre for some reason; their whiny voices were like nails on a chalkboard. It got to the point where I grabbed them and sent them flying if I heard them moaning...

Help me sirr. I'm poor and sick and hun-gray!

*shudders* since nobody seemed to care, so long as I didn't punch them... although I did that too sometimes. It wasn't as bad in 2 since you could actually throw shrapenel at the those guys to shut them up anytime. Not being able to actually help the beggars in 1 left only two options: 1) endure because you are invincible to all kinds of mental torture, 2) violence!

Guess if I were to say a type of NPC, ones that block your path and won't get out of the way...

Every. Single. Damn. Person. In. Animal. Crossing.

They're not inherently annoying, it's more of the fact that you have to sit tapping through the same only lines of dialogue when you just want to have their blumin' bells (I hope that doesn't sound too much like a euphemism). The ordeal would be easier if you could actually skip lines like in every single other game with text bubbles, but all it does is just speed it up slightly.

Yeah, yeah, that's great. Look, do you want this fossil or not?
