I also challenge people to name the worst thing that humanity has created.
Mine would be the Nuke, the Nuclear power plant... And bullets.

The Large Hadron Collider by CERN.

Isn't it just an awe-inspiring high-tech nightmare?

Another human.

Seriously.

We take two humans, one with outside stuff and the other with inside stuff, make them "happy", wait 9 months, and BAM! You've got a fully functional biological being that automatically breathes and circulates blood, plus process complex foods and extracts minerals needed to survive.

Beat THAT, giant rock buildings.
wow... when you put it that way, it kinda is pretty impressive...

But, then again, animals can do pretty much the exact same thing... also, you don't "build" humans :p

OT: I think the Large Hadron Collider... not cause it works or whatnot, but simply cause its the worlds biggest... well, anything, built by humans.

What is the most awesome thing you have ever seen that we have made or built?

It can be anything, a building, invention, weapon, car... whatever you like.

I shall begin with Gaudi's Sagrada Familia:

It's like Lord of the Rings made a baby with Oblivion.
La Sagrada Familia. Gaudi was a genius. Went to see it last year, it truly is massive.

In fact many of the things Gaudi Build could qualify for this thread. He would incorporate natures forms into his work so that his architecture would appear organic. Most of it was highly functional too.

Computers. Just that.
Giant structures can be stunning but so is 500,000,000 transistors inside an area of 1 mm square.

I'll also vouch for the internet. In fact, I'd say it's the most amazing thing built by humans ever.

Not exactly what I'd say the most awesome thing made by humans but it's certainly a great way to improve something.

They haven't finished building that yet. Till they have, I'm sorry but it's this:

Pharmacuetical products. They amount of lives they save or make better through treating disease far out-trumps anything else humanity has done. I would say anti-biotics are the corner stone of that idea, but there are literally so many drugs now that the label could apply to, DMARDS, HAART, anti-cancer drugs, immuno-supressants to avoid transplant rejection, beta-blockers, ACE inhibitors, interferon, the list goes on. By far the most important thing humanity has invented.
