That is an awesome story!Kalevra Goodkat said:Now THAT is a story! The Afrodactyl said:My life is pretty tame, so I'm gonna say my mates uncle Graham.
Why? Well (so the story goes) he was walking to his car one day, and a guy walked up to him and tried to mug him. The guy whipped out a knife and tried to stab him. Graham, being the manly man that he is, put his hand up to block the knife.
The knife went into, and through his hand all the way up to the hilt. From there, he pulled his arm sideways, ripping the knife out of the guys hand, then punched him in the face with his free hand.
He then bundled the (now unconcious) mugger into his car and drove to the nearest hospital.
After the guy got his nose fixed and Graham got his hand stitched back together, Graham promised he wouldn't press charges and that he would pay for the medical bill for the guy's nose. Now they're good friends and often joke about it.![]()
I don't know many extraordinary people, but one that stands out in my mind is this guy who used to (might still be) a staff member in the Squadron I used to be in (Air Cadets, not RAF, unfortunately). He was a real mystery. None of us knew how old he was, how long he had been there, how he knew everything he knew or why he was as sexist as he was (a theory is that his bride-to-be ran off with another woman, hence his hatred for women). He rarely smiled...unless he was going to direct a sarcastic comment at you, and he was a scary man. But that was if you didn't earn his respect. If you did, he was the most generous person I have ever met, and he didn't demand respect. He got respect for who he was.
He used to sleep in the ATC hut, even though he had a house, and was really dedicated to what he did. When loads of us went to Snowdon, he would go up huge lumps of track and back within about ten minutes (when it would have taken some of us about an hour) and would just say 'Yeah, not going that way'. He was a machine, and one of the most respected men I have ever met.
Not badass as such, but he was mysterious, so we all filled in the gaps.
