Heavenly Peach Banquet from Monkey-Journey to the West.
Just chokes me up and makes me smile at the same time.

A Hermit's Cave
Couldn't be bothered to post on 'saddest song' largely because I thought I had posted the angel-voiced Ilaria a bit too much.

For me, most beautiful song = saddest song =

If you understood Italian, you'd get why I inevitably start blubbing at the start of the second chorus.

A three-way tie, here; all of them cheesy as all hell:
1) "May It Be"; Enya.
2) "Now We Are Free"; Lisa Gerrard.
3) "Ami"; Nobuo Uematsu.

This is one of the most chilling pieces of music I've ever heard; never heard any of her other works, but Mary McGlynn has a beautiful voice

Lot's of guitars. A voice that I think is beautiful. What more would I need for making one of the best songs there is? (to me anyway)

This really appeals to the Villain in me.

Listen to them - children of the night. What music they make.
I find it amusing that you associate this with night/dark/evil(ish) etc. given that the good Kapellmeister of Koethen was a devout Lutheran!

Personally, I prefer:

(Not the best youtube vid of it, but still good. A bit too straight-out-of-the-blocks for me... ease it with the swell stops... needs to start with 16' on great and build from that mellow tone to get me.)

Don't know what it is about it. I just find it beautiful and somewhat haunting.

Adagio in G-Minor, composed by Albinoni. Not really a song, but a beautiful piece of perfection.

And being the huge Disney-boy I am, I can't answer to this thread without adding this to the list:
Heaven's Light / Hellfire from The Hunchback of Notre Dame.

It happens with a lot of music though.

Try Chopin's Prelude No. 20 in C Minor:

Which is also

And you may recognise it more from

Dies Irae
Which is either Wilhelm Krauser's music or Nightcrawler's, depending on your age.

Air On a G String?

Diamonds...via Carmina Burana - O Fortuna

But it's not just me that thinks of Dracula with Toccata...

A spin-off of this: http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/18.281817-The-Saddest-Song-Youve-Ever-Heard (btw thanks for that OP)

Basically instead of sad songs, beautiful songs. Songs that make you cry for the right reason, if you know what I mean.

This is probably one of my favorite movies of all time. I acknowledge that there are way better ones, but the reason I like this one so much is because it totally caught me off guard. In all honesty I thought it was gonna suck, boy was I wrong. Anyway, this song gets me every time.
Down a Country Lane by Aaron Copland. Listen to it played by the New England Conservatory Wind Ensemble.

Possibly the most emotive song for me apart from the Nessun Dorma. Mainstream as you get, but sometimes there's a reason for that. Jupiter from the Planets Suite by Holst too.

Ah, I see, apologies, didn't get the reference from your original post at first.

It's like:

with Chopin's Prelude in E minor. Brilliant song/sample of the original piano music.

Awesome, this is really a great place for soundtracks to shine.
