In recent years, there's been a lot of pop acts singing about being beautiful or someone or something being beautiful. Now, i know this ain't a new thing but it just feels as if these people dont really know what beauty is and by bandying it around so often it starts to loose all meaning and worth. You see, "beauty" and "beautiful" are powerful words.

The above is the intro to a song called Tommy C by Dan le Sac vs Scroobius Pip. If you don't know the song, it goes on to describe what they consider to be the most beautiful thing ever:

On April 5th, 1984, the London Pallaium was the scene of Tommy's show once more. It was a full house and he had the crowd eating out of his hand once more everything, as usual, seemed completely unplanned and in what seemed like a finale Tommy dropped to the floor causing the room to erupt into laughter and rapturous applause. The curtain closed, lights went up and there was no encore, everybody left their seats and headed for the door. Unbeknownst to them they had witnessed Tommy Cooper's death. He had given his all until he had nothing left. Now, please note that at the moment that this entertainer died, even with a room full of people, not one tear was cried. Much less, they rose to their feet as they lauged and clapped. Now tell me one fucking thing that's more beautiful than that. 'Cause im sure i cant think of one.

Tell me, 'scapists, what is the most beautiful thing you've ever seen?
What makes you stop in your tracks and just think "wow"?

Children. Not in the weird creepy way but the way in which they have not yet been jaded by experince and posess so much potential for good. Sure that potential will be murdered by modern society. But in innocence is beauty.

The most beautiful thing I've ever seen...

Every mirror that has ever existed!

Ok, ok, I'll be serious..

I was walking home from the local store this winter, while listening to Chopin. And I walked passed this tree with berries, and it was just... beautiful..

It was snowing, and the tree was dark black in the night, but the berries... the berries were bright red. I saw them clearly in dark, and the combination of the black tree, the snowing, and the red berries, plus the beautiful classical music, was just... Incredible.

Some pictures are really beautiful and some scenes of perfect sunsets and some nature stuff like that. Now just put a damn pretty girl in there and you got me sold.

Yeah.

Also, I was listening to The Wind Cries Mary by Hendrix while waiting for a bus in NYC. I saw so many good things. I saw 3 guys laughing and playing cards on a fold-out table. I saw a husband and a wife dancing in their apartment. I also saw a large man stop to help a woman carry her things onto the train. Also, there was one of those orange-red-yellow-amber sunsets that cloaks your entire world in vibrant colour.

Probably a childs innocence.

When they haven't been warped by this fucked up world, when all they care about is playing and having fun, when they don't give a damn about what race you are, or the color of your skin, or your religion, they just want to have fun and be friends.

Its just beutiful.

You can infinetly watch three things: fire, water, and other people at work. Now just let me put some abandoned warehouse on fire, and we're all set.

In seriousness, the morning after blizzard probably qualifies. Trees are covered in snow, when sun goes up and everything begins to shine. Beautiful, isn't it?

While not the most beautiful, dead trees get an honorable mention, as well as a view of the sea from a large bridge.

I have yet to directly see what I think may be the most beautiful thing I shall ever see, and I refuse to give anything such a title until I have seen it.

Obvious answer: The girl I love.
Geeky answer: Haskell, the programming language
Angst answer: Death.
Sociopath answer: Anything in this world except for humanity.
Real answer: Hard to say, my surroundings are not that beautiful.

As I was flying to Mexico at the end of December, I watched the sun rise over the clouds as Exogenesis: Symphony Part Two by Muse. It seemed almost magical.

I'm sure there are more beautiful things, though. I have an entire life to live, so I'm sure I'll see some of them.

I was going to say you OP in a highly humourous 'guy love' kinda way. But I stopped myself long enough to check your profile and see that you are female, then I all sheepished myself out and wrote all this nonsense instead.

So..... erm..... yeah.... I'll come back when I have something genuine to add.

Edit: Also, Happy Birthday for tomorrow OP.

My 8month old daughter. I posted a picture of her in a thread yesterday about something like, "what do you live for?"

She's amazing. There aren't really even words for how she makes me feel. I can't truthfully describe it without coming across as uncomfortably effeminate.

I was thinking along these lines but I decided that beautiful is not the word I'd use to describe it. It's certainly something to behold though, the innocence of youth.

Fire purdy.
I like fire. I agree with you on an aesthetic level, however I'm loathe to say I find the destructive power of fire beautiful.

True beauty for me is impossible to describe.

Fire is cleansing in its purest form. In a manner of speaking...
