I once played an amazing riff that was way beyond my current skill level on guitar. It was during a recording session with an old band of mine, so I got it recorded, but I have no clue on how the hell I played it.

Once I managed to do a whole song with three different chords in it on electric guitar...and I've been playing for a whole year....jeez I feel pretty pathetic. I don't even know why I started trying to learn in the first place.

Just keep at it. I was horrible my first year as well. If you keep practicing and trying different things then by at least year three you'll be able to do some pretty cool stuff =)
