Perhaps it was one you watched a lot of as a child, or maybe they were meant to be depressing. Please keep this to cartoons.

For me it would have to be Spot the Dog. The animation was so minimalistic, it had an empty feel to it.

Ed, Edd, and Eddy. It seems very juvenile and fun, but, when you think about it, it is just 3 boys that everyone hates who try to con others so they can finally buy food.

Why would anyone want to watch sad cartoons? That's counter-entertainment.

That... Really ruined my evening... *cries*

That was probably the most depressing thing that I've ever watched.

By far the most depressing, yet funny cartoons I have ever watched was Monkey Dust on BBC 3.

The sketches in that show were as disturbing as they were hilarious.

The Animals of Farthing Wood film was pretty sad. They had a whole five minute scene leading up to the two hedgehogs getting run over on a busy road. That's very sad and disturbing as a child.

Easily one of the best social commentaries of Britain I've ever seen, but yes it was pretty disturbing too, with the lab bunny particularly...

If we're allowed animated films my vote goes to Bambi. It's cliche I know, but it really is that sad.

I shed manly tears whenever I remember Kiwi!. I'm doing it right now.

The saddest cartoons I've seen are all those updated, reimagined, edgier versions of old cartoons that were awesome that they created for the ADHD addled youth of today. Also, Pokemon and all its variants/successors/blatent rip-offs.

The lot of them. They're just... sad.

I also found this cartoon sad and depressing, but watched it regardless, as it was sandwiched in between Captain Planet and The Simpsons.

Because they're masochists, obviously.
Oh, that's not fair to the rest of the masochists. Not everyone who's ever played with knives is emo.

Actually the kiwi didn't die. You could hear the sound of a parachute opening at the end.
Edit: I take it back. There must be something wrong with my hearing.
