Every time someone cries in Mass Effect 2, I feel like crying myself.

Just seeing their eyes tear up like that, it's just so beautiful and heart-breaking

I've got a couple.

Garrett and Viktoria, who at the end of Thief 1 would have liked to slit each others' throats, have worked together to uncover the plot of Mechanist head priest and all-around freakshow Karras. His plan is to use enslaved servants in the homes of the wealthy to unleash rust gas- which can literally burn anything alive to ash- to wipe out all life in the City, and possibly the world, to deliver a "perfect" lifeless world to his God, the Master Builder. However, Garrett's caution brings him to delay action until he can think of a plan.

Then this happens.

My first thought: "No. NO. You know what, Karras? Aside from the Trickster, who was a freaking God, I've come through the entire Thief series without a single murder. I'm about to break my streak, and YOUR SCRAWNY NECK."

When Kefka moves the statues and actually destroys the world. I was convinced, up until that very moment, that somehow I'd manage to get into a battle scene and stop him. And then my jaw dropped. "Wait. Wait. What. No. It wasn't. No. Wait."

EDIT: How could I forget what happens when Celes lets Cid die on their lonely island afterwards? That music....

Also, the ending credits, that thirty minutes of awesome music where EVERY LAST BIT CHARACTER YOU EVER MET IN THE GAME GETS CLOSURE, and then the airship soars away into the skies, vapor trails following, and then fade to black. I get misty eyed just remembering it.

I'll second "You're My Inspiration" in EBA (I mean, seriously, who could willingly fail that?) as well as the "Dom Finds Maria" scene in Gears of War 2. I never played the second one, and quite honestly when I looked up the scene on YouTube I expected it to be cheesy or overblown, but I was surprised by how powerful the scene was.

The Final Battle of Mother 3, it really throws things into perspective.
I second that.
It's possibly the greatest final boss battle. Ever.

No objections. Now go back to the woods, shoo!
Man I love that game. What evokes the most emotion is that hardly anyone in the west has played it.
Oh, we've played it. THe legions of Avid Mother fans are a testament to that. I wish copyright laws weren't such a butt to deal with over here.

But yeah, The entirety of Mother 3 is the most emotional video game moment ever. I laughed, and I cried.
The final battle and the end of Chapter 1 were sad, but what really got to me was Chapter 6.
When I watched it for the first time, I was bawling like a newborn baby. Then I watched it again. And I cried again. I felt sad in the way only a caretaker can.
Oh, man...Chapter 6. That was one tearjerker of a exposition.

But I still think the ending to Chapter 8 was the highest point of emotion in the game. I played the final boss battle again a few days ago, and I broke down during the credits roll. And I can still remember the first time I found the mouse in Locrea's hut...which just made me feel like a real jerk. Go me.

Persona 4: Teddy accepts that he is just a shadow and not really a person. That brought a few tears in my eyes.

Mass Effect 2 had some tense scenes in the finale, thanks to the fact the game let's you know anyone of you characters could die if you screwed up something. Nice break from narrative causality, since it was up to the player's choices what happened.
Had few of horror-tease moments there, like a character clutching their side, almost falling over while escaping, nearly dropping off a floating platform, lying a completely still just a second after falling... I was almost yelling "Oh shit, don't die!" a few times.

Then there was that video log of a Quarian leaving a message to her child...

The ending of CoD4 got to me. When I saw Gaz get shot in the face, I literally screamed "YOU B*STERD!"

I don't see why people were effected by the nuke in it though. I didn't feel any connection with the UMSC guy, those levels seemed more like fillers than anything.

Metal Gear Solid 3. I didn't play it, I watched the compilation with the final special release. (I haven't got the game yet but needed to know the story for MGS4 (Still completely head-frying)) - going to play it for proper soon. (Hardware, backward compatibility, y'know.)

Original Modern Warfare's nuke scene was pretty hard hitting. Especially as I was completely unaware of it at all despite reviews I saw of it.

Shadow of the Colossus

Not the final scene, but shortly before that. If you've played, you know what I'm talking about. If you haven't, do so.

Okay, lesse...

For an old game, FFVII has several emotional moments. Of course, everyone's heard of the whole 'Sephy goes stabbity-mc-stab-stab on Aerith', and that is indeed sad. Mainly because she's the kind of character you want to sit on your lap and feed cookies all day; she's lovable. This, however, is besides my point.

Back in Disc 1, a little while after leaving Midgar, you travel to Cosmo Canyon. After a fairly tough dungeon -- the Cave of the Gi -- your party (which consists of Cloud, Red and [insert your choice here]) comes to the back of the cave, where the truth about Red's father is revealed. Having believed him to be a coward who left his village in the face of the Gi tribe, Red is shocked to learn that he did not run; in fact, he gave his life to defend one weak spot into the Canyon, through the cave you just battled through. Hit by an enemy arrow, he continued fighting despite slowly being petrified. Stricken with grief at the revelation, Red leaps up the rocks to stare up at his father; still standing fiercely, hackles raised and teeth bared at an enemy long since defeated. He howls mournfully, and as he does so, tiny droplets of water -- tears -- slip from the stony eyelids of Cosmo Canyon's forgotten protector.

That, coupled with the track used in game, very nearly makes me cry every time I see it.

For me, it was during Tali's loyalty mission:

Using the Paragon interrupt after finding her father's corpse to give her a hug and comfort her as she is sobbing in your arms. Such a heart-breaking moment, but also such a heart-warming display of compassion from Shepard at the same time.

like a MAN...

OT: another scene was when
dies at the end of the "loose ends" mission in MW2, but then again, i guess it wasnt that emotional, just more of an "oh shit!" moment...

Final Fantasy 10:

When Yuna is doing the sending(the big one), was just so sad

When Tidus first finds out that Yuna will die while theyre in Home, think i actually cried at that bit.

And the ending. No explanation needed i think, its just amazin.

And several other times in that game too...^^

I agree with all of these. Another favorite moment of mine is when the party decides to stand up to Yunalesca.
Oh yea thats a great moment too, Aurons speech, epic^^

sorry about zombie thread, but i was about to make a similar thread so...
the aforementioned scene in The Darkness really got me, but most recently i got hit in, surprisingly, Borderlands.
when scooter sends you to check on TK back in the arid badlands, and you walk up to his house with a sense of growing dread as he isnt in his usual porch seat, and his normally closed door is open. you walk in and hes hanging upside down from the ceiling, dead. whereas all of the other characters basically just say 'do this, do that' he expresses thanks and friendship, including at one point a very heartfelt little speech about how you are a true and generous friend, going far beyond what a normal person would do. seeing him dead was a kick in the gut in itself - but when you report back to scooter, and he barely seems to care, i was genuinely pissed off at him.

Nice of you to consider making a similar thread, isn't mimicry considered a sincere form of of something or other?

To remain on topic though,

Carlos' death in Saints Row 2.

He is a junior banger trying really hard to achive in they eyes of the Boss, and for all his efforts he ends up being dragged face down around the docks.
Boss tries to pick him up to move him, but can't as Carlos just screams in pain, then tries to frantically break the chain off the car.
They then go over to Carlos, who grabs his hands, and takes a euthanizing bullet to the head.

Ohhh, you better belive I enjoyed killing Jessica after that.
