The title says it all.
I can only think of the third pirates of the carribean movie, despite the quality of the film the ending was quite epic.

Agree completely with this, the only thing that made it less epic was the complete and utter lack of reaction to it in the whole of the next book, I mean seriously!

I know! Man, RJ really dropped the ball on that one. It was a huge event, surely someone else in the world must have noticed it!

But seriously, I'm actually one of the three people on the internet who liked Crossroads of Twilight. Not least for the mental image of every single channeler in entire world turning towards Shadar Logoth and giving one giant simultaneous "WTF?!"

The ending of Gran Torino. Funny how I mentioned that in two threads today now.
This. I thought that I saw it coming, but I didn't give Walt enough credit.

Also V For Vendetta has a great payoff at the end.

No they don't. You're quite clearly wrong. Like...factually incorrect. Both Asuka and Shinji are shown alive after the dust settles. Considering they're two of the main characters, I'd say they qualify to be part of 'everyone'

Stardust, the movie:
(before reading the spoiler, which is largely a personal rant, I really really recommend that you go see this movie - give it a shot, I had no idea what to expect and I ended up loving it! [if you liked The Princess Bride, you will probably like Stardust - its a fairy tale more than a fantasy])

Like I said, I had no idea at all what to expect from this movie, and by the time the Star fell I was fucking in love with this movie.

And then when Tristan is finally going to the Witch's lair in the magic crater, and the last remaining evil prince shows up, so they team up to battle the undead witches! Septimus (after running into his long lost sister, Una!) uses his skill to beat one witch, while Tristan frees the abused animals to get their revenge on the second witch! And the head witch kills the evil prince, but he comes back to life as clay doll and puts on the most creative swordfight I have ever seen, as Tristan uses his new sword (and training he got from Captain Shakespear) to win the battle!

Then he has to take on the evil witches, but he still has his magic flower from his father that Yvaine saved from the wandering gypsy lady! He fights back with the enchanted lightning bolts that were gifted to him! And then he fucking cuts the rope, and in one of the coolest takes I have ever seen, he tackles the evil lead witch, and rescues the star! But as they are leaving, the evil witch starts acting all sad, and decides to let them go, and I was just like "aww!," but then she tries to kill them after all, and I was like "woohoo!" And then the Star explodes and blows the witch to hell and saves the day! True love is had and the cake is good!

But then it turns out that Tristan isn't some lowly commoner - he is the crown prince (and he has just unwittingly saved his own mother). He grabs the magic necklace and turns the magical ruby back to its original red removing the curse placed on it by the dying king before he threw it into the sky, so the deceased ghost spirits can finally rest in peace, free of their curse! And everybody shows up for the big wedding at the end! The sky lightning pirates, Captain Shakespear, Brevis, the people from the village, Humphrey, Victoria, his Dad and Mom reunited at last, etc! And it's said that they rule for 80 years and go into the sky to become stars forever. It doesn't get better than that!

It was fucking awesome! All of it was just pure awesome! Cheesey, sure, but cheesey awesome!!!

This movie had fucking EVERYTHING!*

*- To get an idea, here are some of the things I didnt mention: the soothsayer and his runestones, the enchanted chain, the carriage ride, the good prince and his brothers, the priest and the poison cups, the fucking UNICORN!, the spirits in the woods, the enchanted inn, the Babylon candle, the clouds, the magic airship, the enchanted market, and old man who fights like a ninja to guard a wall, Ricky Gervais as a fast talking salesman, Sienna Miller, I could go on and on.

EVERYTHING!

Which left me disappointed when I read the book.

Tristan doesn't kill the witch. The Star just kind of walks away, then Tristan dies, and the Star lives alone forever in the tower. It was so fucking sad and disillusioning compared to the film.

Although the book did have the unicorn getting mutilated. Which was slightly cooler than the enchanted battle with the were-goat, but that was pretty sweet as well.

Haha very true, I liked to imagine it somewhat like the exclamation mark and noise when you alert a guard in MGS1.

Also agree about V for Vendetta, watched it for the first time the other night and liked it alot more than i expected to, the ending was...explosive...sorry had to be done.

Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty.

Sword fight in the ruins of downtown New York = Awesome.

Edit: It might as well have been a movie.

If I recall correctly everyone but Shinji dies(He goes nuts instead). Asuka just comes back because... while he was God he didn't want to be lonely I guess.

Whatever it was an awesomely disturbing ending.

I will also add that no one (except Ritsuko and a few minor characters) actually dies. Anyone who wants to leave their existence in a sea of LCL can.

No wonder TV Tropes gave it it's own high octane nightmare fuel page and is generally terrified of it.

The most epic ending I saw in a while was to Eagle Eye. I actually got to the point where I was standing because of the suspense it created.

I thought the ending to the book Ptolemy's Gate by Johnathan Stroud was very moving.
...something happens. Just read the trilogy, it's quite worth it.
