Fox network, for various atrocities, and the eggheads who decided that Pluto isn't a planet.
Oh, and people who talk at the theatre- they go to a special hell, after all.

Seriously, though? Murderers, torturers- the usual folk. No place for such things in what really should be a more civilised age.

I'd say this is close... but the ignorance itself is not what is evil, in my eyes. It's those who facilitate the spread of said ignorance for the express purpose of controlling (and profiting obscenely from) a population.
So: inner-city gang members who terrorize neighborhoods - not necessarily evil, but always very misguided.
The people who tailor entertainments, products, broken education systems, and laws to keep those gang members' lifestyle viable - evil.

Oh, and brainwashing. (That means you, parent who teaches your kids to be good unquestioning christians)
Ah, but what about teaching kids to be (what you see as) good people? Aren't you brainwashing them the same, just into something you happen to approve of.

well since good and evil are essentially meaningless as absolutes i am going to stick with a common definition
i will have to go with brain washing of all types that's the only thing that scares me about science and technology and one of the things i most hate about all religion brain washing is such a violation of free will and personal freedoms and the scary and evil thing about it is that its most effective when the victim doesn't know its happening
for me its worse than even mass murder mass murder can be justified for me brain washing is so against everything i hold dear that its as close to evil as my philosophy gets and the most heinous crime against common evil i can think of

But ignorance is bliss.

Does that mean evil is bliss?

I have to agree. Nearly all wars and oppression stem from that one source.
I know its fashionable to hate on religeon if your atheist but i wouldnt say religeon persay is "evil" its more the conflict of culture and ideals that causes tension.

Also people in positons of power enables evil

"Strength enables dominance and dominance paves the way for abuse"

OT: Dunno, i'd have to go for kiddie torture

Evil is someone who will commit a crime, like murder, but goes about it in such a sadistic, disgusting way and not feel any sort of remorse. Like Jon Venables and Robbie Thompson.

Most evil thing that isn't considered a crime? Being with someone who is pregnant and then leaving them to fend for themselves, or finding out your partner has a terminal illness and just saying 'That was fun, call me when you're better'. Selfishness and just plain disgusting nature can amount to evil depending on the situation.

Something like the above happened to a girl I know. She found out she was suffering from depression (not as bad as cancer or something, but you'd need support) and her boyfriend says 'Call me when you're better'. No checking up on her or anything. Not evil, but very, very selfish.

It is meant to refer to an individual rather than a whole society. Yes, ignorance is bliss (living your life not knowing too much, but just enough to have you living a comfortable, peaceful existence). However, when changes come your way and new, and sometimes unfortunate, things begin to occur, your ignorance quickly turns to your downfall. You do not know what is happening and you try to ignore it, but these new thoughts begin stewing in your head. Rather than trying to get a grip of the situation (though knowledge, research, or sheer understanding) your ignorance continues to stew the thoughts in your head.

Yeah, you might be in bliss, but then you begin to develop irrational hatreds for people or ideals that you yourself do not fully understand, only that they are different to yours, you become angry when other things and people are favored over yourself, and you will cut yourself off from the world as a sensible citizen.

And the worst part is that you will believe that these manners of thinking are okay, because your ignorance is bliss.

I ment that as a joke ^^.

But while i get your point i think alot of people do evil either cause they feel they have to or simply because they can whilst gaining no benefit i.e cultural pressure ect

Not the most evil thing I can think of, but I was talking to a friend of mine about it the other night.

"Tranny-hawks" These are people who date/marry transsexuals in order to get access to the money they were saving up for surgery/procedures to transition.

And then of course, the obvious answers, like most mainstream religions, 4chan, ect

Oh hey, it's this again. Religion isn't inherently evil anymore than it's inherently good. It's simply a belief in the supernatural with some degree of participation involved, and as such it can be used for good or ill. Using it as an excuse to violate other people's rights is evil, sure, and it happens way too much. But more often than not it's the excuse.

For me, the most evil than that can be done is the willful harming of an innocent for unjustifiable purposes.

I'd say that wilful ignorance is the worst...turning a blind eye to things you don't want to know about.

on another note which is worse rape or murder? (I really find this topic too disturbing to give it it's own thread so I'll just put it here)
