I realize topics like this exist quite a bit. This one aims quite a bit differently because i think that today i heard the most fail experience in gaming ever. If you disagree with my thought and have witnessed something more please let me know.
I work with one of my rather good friends who will more then likely be mad that i am sharing this story but its worth the many laughs it will gather. Recently he mentioned he wanted to try final fantasy xi out because he is sick of WoW and the general grind-tastic work of the game. I have played the game twice in the past, both times getting into my twenties with a Redmage so i told him i would play with him if he would like.
I flew past the install of the 14 day trial quickly and painlessly because i knew what to expect the install and patching took about five hours. Him the process took much longer taking him into the wee hours of the night. Four o clock this morning he got it working.
This is not his fail moment.
He logs in, baffled by the rather complexities of the menu based GUI interface from final fantasy XI he wanders aimlessly through the town until finally locking onto another player by accident a process he has no idea what he did or how to undo it. he spends fifteen mintues trying to figure out how to undo it randomly hitting keys moving the mouse around frantically to get out of the locked on function, finally giving up he logs out, the only way he could fix it.
This is also not his fail moment.
Some of you know, final fantasy xi has an exp system in which if you die you lose exp, some of you at this point have figured that he died many times and was unable to level... its worse then that.
He finally walks out of the city the proud hume level 1 black mage and walks up to the very first monster he sees, a worm. Casting stone on the worm causes it to be very angry but hardly hurts it due to its earth element. My friend frantically fights back stabbing at it with his knife. Alas his attempts are in vain as he is slain by the very first monster he encounters.
He looks at the game in disbelief and turns it off promptly. unable to face the reality of what just transpired.
A somewhat well traveled Massive multiplayer gamer was defeated by a level one monster. The very first one he has ever faced in this game.
