What is, in your opinion, the worst contest ever, be it from video games, movies or TV, real or fake. By terrible, I don't mean bad, I mean HORRIBLE. A contest that is sheer physical and mental torture.
My pick would be The Long Walk, in The Long walk, by Stephen King (as Richard Bachman)
In it:
100 teens have to walk down a road at a minimum of 4 miles per hour. If you dip below for more than a few seconds, you get a warning. ONE warning will clear PER hour. Get 4 warnings and you get shot. the walk goes on, no rest until one is left. food is passed out by soliders at 9 AM each day and you can obtain water at anytime.
That would be unimaginable pain to me. So what is the most grueling contest in your opinion?

very simplethere was a radio contest a few years ago,to win one had to hold his or her bladder the longest(I have no idea how they could tell if you did or not)and the prize was a wii,the person who won was an old lady,15 minutes after winning, someone found her dead on the floor, apparently holding so long caused something to happen with her bladder(implosion?)worst contest ever

Remember reading that book when I was younger. And just to add, the only way to get out of it was in a body bag or as the only survivor.

4 people race to see who can beat Ocarina of time first, oh wait that was really done...

100 newborn babies have to race to see who can develope the highest form of education and largest salary, they are monitored all their life and carefully watched to see if they cheat or take any shortcuts, everything is measured in points and if you do cheat or shortcut through anything points are removed. At the age of 35 whoever wins gets to go to the promised land and live forever. Whoever loses gets shot in the head, 35 years of their life just to be shot because you weren't the best. No torture just a BOOM! dead.

Unrealistic yes but... i think it is pretty terrible

Battle Royale

Slaughter all your friends or die trying. Also, explosive collars.

She died of "water poisoning." Whenever you have more of a substance in your body than you can tolerate, it's referred to as poisoning, and it can even happen with water.

Didn't he write a similar one called 'The Running Man'? I think that might have been about an evil contest as well.

Alternatively, Unreal Tournament.

That was how Isaac newton's assistant died, He didnt want to be rude at a dinner party by asking to use the loo & he ruptured his bladder or something.

Dreadzone from Ratchet: Deadlocked, is pretty messed up when you take away all the quirky and hilariousness of the Ratchet and Clank series.

The premise is simple:
Each contestant wears a DeadLock collar, which will kill you (By means of an Explosion, if I recall correctly) if you happen to refuse to participate, or if they tire of you.

Being forced to play Russian roulette. I'd hate to do that, especially if it was with my friends or something.

Edit: Or being in The Cube [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cube_%28film%29].

I remember seeing a YouTube video (the sort where visuals are basically not present) where this woman had to call her husband with the station connected and pretend that she was cheating on him. If he forgave her, they would get concert tickets. Instead, he ended up confessing that he was cheating on her. On the radio.

Battle Royale is pretty terrible as far as fiction goes.
In real life, the "Hold your wee for a Wii" was completely idiotic and resulted in a pointless death.

Running man is a book where:
The Guy has to survive 100 days being hunted down. Civilians can capture him, give tips, etc. and they win money for it. Also, on the TV the Running Man is portrayed as evil, so civilians WANT to catch him.
I like The Long Walk better.

Can't believe no one has mentioned that game on the Wii where this is the entire premise. Which game features the guy with the bike and a chainsaw again? I seem to have this confused with Manhunt for some strange reason. Yahtzee gave it a bashing (Whaddya expect, its a Wii game. That is to Yahtzee like holy water is to vampires.)

EDIT: Madworld, that was it. Complete with a complete monster for a commentator.
