The Percy Jackson Series

The Dragon Keeper Series

Anything by H.P Lovecraft

the Boy who Couldn't Die

It wasn't that I felt I was the main character per say, but I was like one of their friends watching form the background.

I completely fell in love with Stephen King's Dark Tower series, and I know a lot of people got bored of it, or got frustrated or didn't like it, but it just sucked me in, and I didn't even read any books over the two or so years it took me to amass all the books and read them (which nearly killed me :p).

I also found the Narnia books very engrossing too, I read the whole series when I was younger. I think they're in storage now :(

Probably going to have to be The Road by Cormac McCarthy.

It was a difficult book to read. Very slow, very depressing, very dark, very moody. Even still, I could not put it down because the relationship between the Man and the Boy was so wildly compelling. McCarthy's descriptions of the world and daily struggles the two face is beautiful. Haunting and at times disgusting, yes, but beautiful nonetheless.

And hey - screw you, Nicholas Sparks, for saying your writing is far better than McCarthy, Hemmingway, and Shakespeare. You massive butthead. Yeah, I went there. What? That's what I thought. Go staple gun your face to lava, Mr. Cliched Romance Novel, I want none of your pish posh. :|

The Old Kingdom (Sabriel, Lirael, Abhorsen). I just... liked it... I can't think why.

Ender's Game was definitely a book I remember thoroughly enjoying. I should go back and reread that one... Been so long.

Another series I'm a huge fan of is The Lost Years of Merlin by T.A. Barron. Great books where the author gives his interpretation of the younger, adolescent years of Merlin's life that seem to be absent.

Other great books I've read are October Sky and Girl With a Pearl Earring..

Day of the Triffids by John Wyndham. I read that 10 years ago when I was 14, it's about killer plants, apocalypse survival etc, and at that age, I was especially easily impressed.

Ah, for that you would have to go deep in depth to one of The Golden Compass books (His Dark Materials trilogy). Those were just amazing, and im having a tough time deciding between the first and the second book. Heck READ THEM ALL!!! [HEADING=1]NOW!![/HEADING]

EDIT: I'd also have to go with Gary Paulsen's: Brian's Winter

Probably the first Dexter book "Darkly Dreaming Dexter" by Jeff Lindsey

Honestly, i'm not one to sit down and read for extended periods of time, i read quite often, but usually in 1-2 hour time intervals.

I started reading that book around 2pm one day, then finished it in one sitting, about 7 hours later.

then the first season of the show was released...holy shit...it was perfect. though, it is interesting how only the first book and the first season are identicle. the two pretty much went on their own paths.

I haven't read that many books so I'll just go with The Lord of The Rings and Jurassic Park.

House of Leaves. It's so fucking cool, the text bends around the page to create atmosphere.

Dune. Most definitely Dune. It's like the Empire is real.
Yus, I felt the same way, this was of course before I got the brain worms.

Now that I've got holes in the brain pan, I'm in love with Jim Butcher's Harry Dresden books (and I'm a little embarrassed to admit this). I'm a whore for all that is Harry Dresden. They're super cheesy, but there's something classic and personal about reading them that makes me stay up late to find out the next thing that happens.

I don't read that many books anymore, unless you count manga but I doubt that applies here. I used to read a lot more when I was a kid, probably the most immersive was the Goosebump series by R.L. Stine, if anyone remembers those.

Not only were they a fun, yet sometimes creepy read, but the cover-art on some of them were downright weird, like these

A TV series was commissioned as well and that was just as weird.

Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance by Robert Pirsig. Not my favourite book, but for a look at the entirety of Religion, Politics, Human Existence and the dangers of them all, there is no better IMHO. It doesn't have much Zen, or much about Motorcycles, but it will change the way you look at things.

Mort, or anything by Terry Prachett, I love Discworld
Hunger Games- sorta. Kills it at the end.
Something Wicked This Way Comes- Oh dear God did it suck me in. That thing was awesome.

I liked the Subtle Knife. Just like the title, it subtlely set you up for the Amber Spyglass. I liked the Amber Spyglass because it showed weakness in Will, and is probably the only book within the past few years that hasn't made love look like it's all anguish and teen angst. (Twilight and Immortal series, I'm looking at you.)
