READ RULES BEFORE POSTING:

So this is pretty simple. Tell me which console impacted your life the most, as in which is now the console that is the most used, and what made you get it. Me? It would be the PC. The first game I played at a friends house was half-life from there I was hooked been an avid PC Gamer since I do occasionally go back to consoles for exclusives, and when my PC is too slow for some games but it has gotten more and more rare that I need to use it. So what's yours?

RULES:

-The console must have been used for a few years. (Exceptions if there was a console by the same company that were released shortly after. Don't know any, so say for example NES to Super NES.)

-It doesn't matter how old the console is if it made an impact, it made an impact.

-This is not a superiority war, I don't care what console or whatever you use, so please don't Troll.

-Keep it civil! That shouldn't be too hard for The Escapist, right?

The Playstation 2. I poured my childhood into that console, and I got awesome games in return.

Oh crap I forgot the PS2 Okay yeah, to be fair that was a big impact but I think PC wins it because I have always had a PC game installed and played it often when I was younger.

I'd have to say the N64. That was the first system that I really played on and looked out for game releases and actually "gamed"

Yeah, the N64 was definitely the most influential console in my life. I have several dozen games for it and every single one I loved as much as the last.

Everything I did with my life after getting an N64 was playing those games. Especially ones like the Banjo-Kazooie games, Duke Nukem, Perfect Dark, Smash Bros... My first game for it was Star Fox, then Super Mario 64, and then I think Legend of Zelda. I beat 'em all, but even to this day I'll still pick them up and play them.

Nintendo 64 was my childhood and influenced my life like no other console.

EDIT:
Though honourable mention goes out to my PS2, which I got after my N64. Even though it didn't bring me as much joy as my N64 did in general, when I got Final Fantasy XI for the PS2 it definitely had a huge impact on my life overall. While the N64 was my childhood, FFXI was definitely my entire high school life.

Either the PS2 or Xbox. The Xbox was the first console that was actually mine, but the PS2 really took up a lot of time in my life.

Tie between Commodore 64 and Sega Genesis. The Commodore was what first got me seriously into gaming, with games like Farie Tale Adventure and Batman. The Genesis is what kept me into console gaming for so very long instead of just giving it up for solely PC. Course my favorite for the longest time was PlayStation 2 and the real winner here would be the IBM Compatible since I've been playing on it for over twenty years.

PS1.

Legend of Mana, Chrono Cross...Some of my favorite RPGs were on that thing. Oh, Brave Fencer Musashi, too.

I had a slim Playstation One.

That was definitely the most influential gaming system for me, it was perfect for me in everyway. I spent alot of time on long journeys and there was a little clip-on screen I could use to plug into the cigerette lighter on the car and play Final Fantasy 7 for dozens of hours on end. Nostalgia is large right now, I no longer know where Final Fantasy or that console are. I wish I did.

The PS2, I think. I played a lot of PS1 games on it (Final Fantasy 9 being my favourite) but it's also got a ton of games I think are awesome. Shadow of the Colossus and Okami are great, Final Fantasy XII is great, the MGS collection is great, Kingdom Hearts is great, and uh, that's pretty much my entire PS2 collection.

I probably do a lot more PC gaming now, but this specified consoles (and I'd argue that, without Steam, the PS2 would be more influential than the PC anyway).

I think the SNES still influences me to this day as a gauge of good games. But "influential" I'll have to say the Commodore. I was 3 when I learned how to use it, and I've been obsessed with games since. Nowadays I'm almost PC only, but I have a lot of fond memories from those systems I played long ago.

For me its a tie between the original Game Boy and the GameCube. A bit of a year gap I know but here's my reasoning.

The Game Boy was the first console that I actually owned, but I wasn't new to gaming as I had played games like Sonic, Aladdin and The Lion King (those games were the business) on my friends Mega Drive. Even though gaming wasn't a new concept to me, it was exciting that I had a console to myself, so I could argue that that is when my passion/love of gaming really came through. *goes to dig out and hug Game Boy*

The GameCube was the first home console I owned (I shared a PlayStation with my brother, but he had the majority of playtime on it so I'm not going to count it. Sorry Sony.) and I absolutely loved it to death. Games like Wave Race:Blue Storm, SSBM and LoZ:Wind Waker for me made it awesome. Although owning a GameCube did put me in the extreme minority, I was the one of about five people in my entire school year group had a GameCube. That didn't put me off in the slightest though. *goes to dig out and hug GameCube*

The Dreamcast. Even though it came out at the very end of 1999, it pretty much personifies the 90s for me. Also, its the final culmination of SEGAs efforts as a united company, IMO. It was the best they could possibly give. I still play it today.

This almost exactly. Except I'd add Jak and Daxter to that list. God I love that furry little bastard.
