Metallica, Parkway Drive, Slipknot, Dethklok.
Metallica has a few songs that i like but i dont think they deserve the god like reverance they get. The same go's for Dethklok. Just because they star in Metalocalypse doesnt make all their music the bees knees goddammnit!!!

The Beatles. /thread
How is that a /thread? You've just opened a can of worms that no force on this earth can close.

Personally I can't tell if you're trolling or genuinely don't understand how the Beatles' extended influence over the entire latter 20th century's music (and the fact that said influence is undeniable in any way) shields them from being 'over rated' simply because they did so much for music that anything good said about them is not a falsehood.

You don't like their music? Fine, but they can't be over rated because they still made siad music which then because so famous that music was changed forever. You don't have to like it but you have to acknowledge what they did.
A band being influential does not exclude them from being overrated, which the Beatles most certainly are as proved unintentionally in your post.

U2, i don't see the good in them others do, and Guns and Roses, of all their so called hit songs I haven't come across one I liked,

Not knocking these groups at all, they just don't do it for me.

I love the Beatles - mostly because, aside from the children's songs I listened to - that was the music I was brought up with. Why are the Beatles so popular? Consistently good songs and the fact that - during their time - they were extremely influential on rock music and music as a whole.

OT: None, people have their own tastes in music; I don't really see an overrated band - because I can accept that people like different stuff than me.

I'm just not into older music and people who claim everything from the 60-70's was the great music ever...please music is too subjective anyway

Mostly any popular music. That's all basically crap... and early metallica (though I haven't listened to much earlier stuff), and Dragon Force.

Most under-rated: Newer Metallica (I never heard St. Anger, but I like Death Magnetic, and I especially like what they did with S&M (The big live show)), Demon Hunter (I only include that based on the lack of people even being aware of it... at least, that I know... though if I'm including bands like that: Stratovarius (Not the newest stuff, but before the self named album), Sonata Arctica (Almost all of their stuff)), and Dream Theater.

So many parenthesis...'s...

I'm jumping on the bandwagon and saying the Beatles. Me and a friend constantly argue over this, with him believing that the Beatles defined music or something. Personally, I think that they were talented song writers, but terrible musicians. The kinks were much better.

U2 and Kings of Leon. I really don't like more than "Beautiful Day" by U2, and Kings of Leon are just not that good.

A Day To Remember? Never even heard of them.

I'll say Radiohead, although I appreciate their work and their highly publicized free release album has had a positive impact for the distribution of music; I still find their music overrated.

What I said was that the beatles have earned their reputation through something solid and undeniable (influence). To be overrated they need to have a reputation born solely out of opinion.
I think, now /thread, since this has devolved into mostly an argument about why The Beatles are/aren't overrated, and this is the most eloquently phrased reason for I have seen yet.

I like Radiohead, but people need to stop refering to them as if OK Computer was the greatest album ever.
