The most petty of criticisms

I have been playing Pikmin 3 for about a week now, put in about 15 hours, and it is a really good game. But I have a criticism. You see, in this game you collect fruit. This fruit is turned into juice in a pretty little 3 second cutscene. My criticism is that there is not enough variety in the color of the juice. You mostly get oranges, yellows, or very light greens. I would like more deep reds, blues, and other dark colors.

I realize this might be the pettiest of all criticisms I could have possibly brought against the game, but for some reason the juice color problem bothers me a lot.

What are your extremely petty criticisms of video games?

GTA IV is way too gray. Seriously, way too gray. You ever look up real new york? Real new york is colorful and a pretty happy place in general despite the disasters that have happened there, but in GTA IV it's like they sucked out all the color and replaced it with the sobs from depressed poets.

Apparently it's like that to "fit the mood of the story". Oh I see, realism is okay when it has my cousin calling me every 5 fucking minutes to go on a dinner date but it's totally fine to throw it out when you can make something more depressing and gritty.

The Prototype games need a some sort of body-count statistic. I'm not a violent person, and even in video games, I try to take non-lethal approaches, so this isn't about some sort of sick satisfaction. I'm legitimately curious as to just how high that number would be.

EDIT: I've been informed that Prototype does in fact keep track of that statistic, so disregard my first criticism.

My new petty criticism is the inability to list an item as a requirement when offering up a Pokemon to trade. You can specify the Pokemon you want, as well as that Pokemon's level and gender. This can make it pretty frustrating when trying to get certain trade evolutions.

Warning: Sports game talk incoming!

I really really wish there was a way for you to give up your QB when he's behind the line of scrimmage in Madden. You can tap X to have him slide when he's past the line but there are times where I attempt to scramble, get bottled up, and then either have to throw it away/run out of bounds (something I don't want to do if I'm trying to run out the clock) or have him get lit up and hope that he doesn't fumble (which he will).

I wouldnt say that it was too grey, just too monotone, sometimes it was completely green, other times it was blue and every sunset was all orange.

OT: The Sims, I really dont like the idea that all I am is a conscience, I can tell the sims to do shit but I can never do it myself, its like I am playing an RTS when instead I would like to play a role playing game where I am the character that I created.

I dont mind that it is the way it is but I would at least like to have the option to have direct control over the character (and I would even enjoy minigames for all the activities like talking, cooking and sports to spice up the gameplay variety)

Could not agree more. New York is actually very lovely and often it can be extremely romantic. But in most games and movies it just looks washed up, desolate and depressive. Like all hope is abandoned and there's nothing left but pain and suffering and dead babies.

...There isn't a body count stat? GTA IV may have had short-comings but it had an insane statistic screen. Every other open world game that allows murder should tell you how many people you have murdered, especially prototype wherein you're not just murdering people but (mostly) cannibalizing their corpses.

Super Mario 3D Land looks wonderful but...why is Mario a yellow cat? Mario's colors are blue and red, primarily red so...why not make him red? If you argue that "red cats don't exist" than I will preemptively counter with "neither do blue or green ones". I was admittedly disappointed that Luigi is that shade of green in his cat suit too...the reveal trailer made it look like Mario wearing a Frog Suit

Same here. I started out trying to avoid killing civilians but considering I can do it entirely by accident pretty much all the time, I gave up... Then I started using them as ammunition(it takes a lot of civilians to kill a helicopter) on top of just being the easiest healthpacks.

Zombie games where things other than headshots kill them. We have all of this mythos behind the headshot>zombie thing, but in games a few shots anywhere generally do the job as well. I would like centerline body shots with a weapon with enough penetration to take out the spine and keep it from walking as well as cutting off arms and legs to disable them, but headshots should be the only thing that kills them.

I have a friend who always ALWAYS seems to have some petty thing to say about how a character runs.
"He runs like a moron", "He runs too stiff", "He runs blah blah".

It blows my mind that someone can care about something like this.

Civ 5

The random maps seem to make littler and littler sense the bigger they get.

While I enjoy the game immensely, there's no reason for a river to be next to the ocean...while never going in it.
And how the hell is ivory (elephants) in a tundra?

It's just those odd moments of 'wait, wut?' that raise my eyebrow when I'm founding my cities.

I remember there being a body count statistic in the first game, never checked for the second. You just gotta go into the start menu and look around for a bit. I know this because I got the achievement for killing 53 million (or thousand, not entirely sure) people and 10 thousand cars. Great game!

OT: I wish it was next year already so I can play Assassin's Creed 5. As for in a game...umm, I guess I would say why isn't there a VS Seeker in the newer Pokemon games, I really miss being able to challenge early opponents. OH, and also re challenging of Gym Leaders. And I guess maybe once beating the Elite 4 getting phone calls every now and then from other Elite 4 challengers whom wanna challenge you.

Any game where you can't jump. Zelda, Mass Effect, ect. It drive's me nuts to be able to run around, but not be able to jump in the air whenever I want. It's not even like I plan to jump around all over the place. It's just knowing that I Don't have the option that I hate.

Yu Narukami is too easy to play in Persona 4 Arena. I struggled through arcade with characters like Kanji, Elizabeth and Naoto (damn you Labby and your unblockable axe)! Then I played Yu and didn't fail once.

It does kind of support the fact that he is a better fighter than most of the cast though. I still love that game, but you asked for petty so...

Link being right-handed in the Wii version of Twilight Princess and Skyward Sword. It never ruined the games for me, but it felt wrong in both games. I exclusively play the Gamecube version of Twilight Princess because he's left handed in it, though the better controls also help.

In Persona 4 I dislike that the protagonist won't walk, if you try to his legs will move at the same speed but he won't move forward as quickly.

I had a lot of fun playing the Headshot! mutation in L4d2 for this very reason. It makes the game so much more tense when a zombie jumps in your face and you have to get a head shot off or you get surrounded The panic events are especially stressful in that mutation.

Almost all the Halo's have had no, repeat, no audio options. Why this is is a mystery to me. Well, at least it's smart enough to shut off its music when my music is playing.

OH YES. This bothers me so much. Can't really get into Zelda even though it seems like such a natural thing to exist, but I even get annoyed by trivial games like Gears of War where jumping would be absolutely worthless.

Anything would be not being able to turn the sensitivity up high enough to my standards. I don't understand why Bethesda games always have such a small range for sensitivity. Another offender that comes to mind is Mirror's Edge. I'm so annoyed I can't adjust it to my likings.

No audio options whatsoever and having shit audio mixing. So many games are amazing except when it comes to the audio, if i can't hear the characters over your sweeping music piece then the sound department has messed up pretty bad. How hard is that. maybe not petty but here's one, i'm playing Mass Effect 3 and coloring sheps armor and one red is too bright and the other is too dark, i don't like it.
