Easy one! The entirety of Amnesia... *curls up, crying in a corner*
Only managed 25 minutes in a row so far before i physically had to get away from the computer... What's your record?
The whole game in one sitting? Took like 2 hours.

Yes, I had somepony help me with the puzzles >_>

I got to that part at noon on a Saturday and I still turned the game off and walked away after getting out of that mall. The rest of the game never topped that for me.

Yeah, same here.

I didn't find the rest of the game particularly good. There's nothing all that scary about beating up homeless guys with a lead pipe. But that one dummy scene was brilliant.

Ravenholm.

Oh God. I saw one of those things... wake up in front of me, in a small constricted room, I turn around and BAM! There are two more, rushing towards me....

I am not a horror person.

OT: that one level in Thief 3. If you've played it, you know it.
Gah! Thanks, now I won't be able to sleep. Fuck the Shalebridge Cradle...great level. There were a few bits in the first two Thief games that made me jump and scream out loud (prompting laughter from my parents, who played them when they first came out).

Not sure about the scariest thing ever, though. STALKER, Amnesia, and Condemned were pretty damn creepy. System Shock was a decent creepfest, too.

In general? I dunno. I mean, I don't play horror games (unless for whatever the hell reason you count Amnesia as a horror game >.>).
Why wouldn't you count Amnesia as a horror game?

On topic, one of the more recent experiences I had was in STALKER: Shadow of Chernobyl. Namely, the first time you go underground.

Sneaking through silent, dimly lit sewer tunnels is stressful enough without dealing with invisible mutants and army patrols lurking around every corner. By the time I finished my mission and started looking for the exit, I was low on health, out of healing items, and wanted the hell out of the place. Then, as you're walking down the final tunnel, exit ladder in sight, you start hearing this odd, staticky ringing noise, and your vision starts getting fuzzy. You look behind you and see this... thing standing in the dark tunnel you came from. As it stands there, staring at you, the noise starts getting louder, and it pulls your mind to itself and attacks it. Then it slowly walks towards you, and the noise starts building up again.

I sprinted for that exit like my goddamn life depended on it.

Wait. People think Ravenholm was actually scary? I thought it was just a self-perpetuating joke all these years.

Really, people? Really?

I thought the chase scene in Call of Cthulhu was fantastic, one of my favourite moments in a horror game actually. Not sure I'd call it scary in any real sense but it was certainly intense and extremely memorable.

The only time I've really jumped at a big name horror game was when the Licker jumped through the double pane glass in Resident Evil 2. The Half-Life mod Afraid of Monsters did however make me very nervous. The "Jacob's Ladder" style of head shaking coupled with limited batteries for my flashlight and almost complete darkness did freak me out a bit. Walking, or standing around in complete blackness waiting for your flashlight to come back on, and when it did seeing a shambling, shaky headed monster coming towards you did scare me a bit, especially because I had limited ammunition. But on the plus side, it really taught me to go for head shots, which has helped me in FPS games ever since.

Horror games don't really scare me all that much. Amnesia: The Dark Descent has given me the creeps a few times but nothing that outright scared me. Honestly, I kind of think the monsters in Amnesia are kinda cute.

Maybe it is because I have no imagination when it comes to horror. I just can't seem to let myself get scared.

OP: for me it was someplace in FEAR 1 or 2 can't remember which, I was climbing a ladder and then when I got to the top Alma was right at the top looking down at me. I screamed and fell down the ladder. It wasn't that scary when you think about it, but the mood and timing made it horrifying.

System Shock 2 had some really disturbing enemy dialogue.
I feel as if I should mention Amnesia, but it's pretty widely accepted by now that Amnesia induces pants-wetting terror.

Rest in piece, I know thee well.

On topic:

Dead Space - the parts with the Regenerator or Ubermorph popping up. They were quite intense and well done. :)

To a T :D

I also want to add:

That scary moment when you've waited ages for the new Unreal Tournament and it's just a vaguely disguised Gears of War game:
"EPPPPIIIIIIC! What have you done?!?! I wanted UNREAL TOURNAMENT, NOT GEARS OF WAR: TOURNAMENT!! I enjoy Gears but damn, I wanted UT3 to be a UT game to the core *thinks back to U1, U2, UT, UT'04, UTC...* NOT some altered version of Gears!"

:'(

But back to the topic at hand, which I'm yet to contribute to:

In all seriousness, there is only one game I have ever not completed because I nearly crapped myself...

...DooM 3.

I don't play a lot of horror, but the early on in Dead Space when the first one of them plays dead.

Also Amnesia, most of it.

Pretty much most of Fear: Extraction (I never played the original FEAR, so I don't really have a point of reference).

Actually, there was a point in FEAR 2 where I was climbing down a ladder from a catwalk, and through the rungs I saw a man walk into an alley. "Oh hey," I thought "I should probably follow him." So I walked around the ladder and into the alley. No Man. Just a small pile of ammunition and armour. "Well, that's a little creepy, but whatever, free ammo." Funny how the moment I turned arou- A BLOOGITY WOOGITY WOO!

Yea, fuck that guy.
