That's one of the scenes that creeps me out from that game

Can't find the video of another freaky moment that scared the piss out of me from the game, but if I do I will post it...

Edit: Ah found it, but the sound isn't the greatest.

Oh god, I freaked the fuck out at that second section. Those guys are really masters of effectively using scripted events.

I'll just answer with the entirety of Doom 3, I had to download the torch mod, I just had to... I wouldn't say it scared me, I just disliked playing the game so cautiously and I'd be a liar if I said it didn't make me jolt on a few occasions.

Doom 64 was terrifying at the time, and the soundtrack created such an atmosphere; I was afraid to move on at times.

For example this is still creepy to this day.
That is one creepy (and atmospheric) track.
Yeah. I like Doom 3 but for me Doom64 managed to capture the balance between genuine scares and action very well; whereas the former title was considerably slower.
I never managed to complete Doom 64, unfortunately, I only managed to beat the first 10 levels (roughly) as I'd hired it for a weekend from a local store.

Here's to hoping the upcoming Doom game is a perfect amalgamation of classic Doom and Doom 3.
I found a video of a Doom 3 mod that I don't know if you are aware of. It's basically Doom 2 with Doom 3's engine.
Thank you very much for the link, the mod/s looked quite good, maybe I'll check them out myself? Could have used a few more enemies though.
You're welcome. And I agree even Doom 2 on 'I'm too young to die' had more enemies.

I'm apparently pretty strange, because a lot of the stuff described on here (Amnesia being the exception) never scared me. I was able to play through all of FEAR and both Dead Space games without really even jumping (although, yes, the corpses getting back up in the first Dead Space game ruined my aiming for a few seconds).
That said, I get scared over things that no one else seems to find creepy. Example: Vault 22 in Fallout: New Vegas. That place is just really freaky to me.

Raj had scare like no other. Walking through dwemer ruins, trying to avoid Wife Mjoll who was hounding about doing laundry. Do not want to do laundry. Would rather risk life for Mead Septems instead of doing laundry!

But getting sidetracked again. Raj is walking through ruins, and ends up in dark area. Of course, i have no problem taking down most animunculi. Raj hasnt feared them in long time. Always hear them a mile away too! But no. walking through dark area crouched and out of nowhere..... NOSELESS, EYELESS FACE staring at me. Well.... not staring at me. No eyes to stare with! ((http://images.wikia.com/elderscrolls/images/8/84/Falmer_simple.jpg))

But was first time encountering Falmer. Saddest part? Raj had to throw out pants. Were favorite pair bought from Radiant Raiment. Close there are very nice! Owners very mean! Kinda funny when you think about it. Then again, all high elves Raj meets are not nice. Maybe cold of Skyrim gets to them.

The freaking Choir in Amnesia.

You know, the big open space with a Brute in it, surrounded by rooms filled with implements of torture, dead plants and a BLOOD RED MIST? And the soundtrack that sounded like it was autocannibalising?

Agh.
Yes. *shudder*

There was also an embarrassing instance for me when I was playing Resident Evil 5 involving a room with the lights off and a goat.

Playing a game where a human can change most aspects of the game and be an enemy you have no hopes of destroying is just so bed wettingly terrifying and incredibly fun when someone creative is playing as David Leatherhoff.
I just watched that part of the series, and watched the next 9 without realizing it was 3 hours or so later.

That's fucking great. I showed it to my mate and he wants to do it now. That's...

Jesus. That was better than an actual horror game, since you can't predict how he'll behave.

Im going to say your first encounter with Sovergn on Virmire, in ME1.

It might not be the most scary thing ever, but in comparison to the cheesy mood of the game up to that point, its pretty unerving

oh and the medical Pavilion in Bioshock

Ugly! theyre all ugly!..UGLY..UGLY..UGLY!!!!!!!

That mannequin in Silent Hill 3. Its in the office building you examine it and Heather makes a remark and then going near the window you hear a woman scream and then a thud, I actually jumped at this sound. Then you go back and the mannequin's head is off with blood covering the body. Bricks were shat.

My earliest were those red and green beast creatures in Link to the Past(the ones that would follow your every movement.) Its the eyes. Then in Chrono Trigger with the Guard Bot and the alarm. I have sensitive hearing so shut it.

Amnesia, of course.

The Orzammar/Broodmother section in Dragon Age did it for me, too. The chanting as you walk down hallways with bits of organic..stuff..on the walls. Might have been the fact I was playing at three in the morning, of course.

Then, it being a cRPG, you meet the boss and it's all "okay, how do I beat this?" Which is why Amnesia rocked-- you CAN'T beat the monsters in a fight. The minute you can, the horror stops.

Oh, and The Path. There's some truly disturbing stuff there, depending on how you play it.

Also, the Griffith Park level in Bloodlines

While the haunted hotel comes in the beginning of the game and plays for more psychological horror, there was always something in Griffith Park that was equally horrifying for different reasons. In the haunted hotel, you are still a new vampire that is learning about the other things in the nights nad the ghosts are something completely new. Also, seriously creepy. Oh my God, the laundry room! The emphasis on that level is atmosphere and it does it good. You are an immortal predator but there are things even you cannot reach.

Griffith park explores similar themes in a different way. You are now one of the mot powerful immortal bloodsuckers in the city. You have fought all sorts of ugly deadly things and won. You have enough firepower and weapons to equip a small mob and go on a violent spree in LA. Also, you've perfected at least one, possibly two of your three supernatural powers. Very little can stand in your way. And then you meet one of the other badass vampires in the city who is absolutely terrified of the werewolves in the park. And of course the werewolves attack. The only thing you, as an immortal immensely powerful bloodsucking predator, can do is run like a little girl. Screaming like one is recommended. And you have to do it for a certain amount of time. I still remember hiding in the toilets thinking the werewolf couldn't possibly fit through the door (he is 9ft tall) and I was right - the damn thing just went through the wall surrounding the door.
About Griffith park-
I've read that you can kill the werewolf by luring him into something, but I could never stay alive long enough to do it and ended up playing hide and seek... which isn't that much fun with something that can break through walls with aplomb.

The hotel section was one of my favorite memories from the game, right up there with "I bet you're glad that wasn't a tentacle monster" and watching my Malkavian argue with a stop sign. No, you stop!

I'm so scared of the type of game Fatal Frame is that I won't even play the damn things after seeing a ghost come at you in a crawlspace

Goddammit, I almost dropped my laptop watching that...I've seen a couple LPs of the Fatal Frames (because there's no way in hell I'm playing them myself) and don't recall that one. Imagine if they disabled pausing when an enemy is nearby...

The only horror games I've played were the first Silent Hill and about 15 minutes of Amnesia. The first bits of Silent Hill were bad enough with seemingly empty rooms having windows and tables shattering as soon as you turned your back to leave, but then crap like this happens.

Controller dropped. TV turned off. Deep breaths taken.
That was hilarious. The body just falls out of the locker and just makes a thud sound. I think the reason I find it so funny is because it reminded me of the falls in Family Guy.

Is that a half life mod?
Yes it's called Nightmare House 2, it's free and the first Nightmare House game is built into it.
I checked out the website, it looks great. I would download it now but I don't have half life installed and my monthly bandwidth limit is almost up, too many Skyrim mods. x.x

Not so much traditionally terrifying in the way of, say, Penumbra, but...Ash Lake in Dark Souls.

So you blunder into Ash Lake, oh look, there's a hydra-thing out there, but it doesn't seem to want anything...

oh...it's getting closer...oh my GOD that's large.

*keep running*

OH JESUS FUCK IT CAN FLY RUN RUN RUN RUN RUN.

To go old school, the first moment of fear and dread I had in a game was in Clive Barker's Undying. You walk up to a mirror and see someone floating up behind you. You turn around and no one is there. That was also the first game I played where pictures changed.
Example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ql3mBU88UWk

Also the first time in Dead Space 1 when one of the monsters was "playing dead." I nearly jumped out of my seat.

Oh, and in Dead Space 2 when you crawl out of a duct to almost get stabbed in the eye by your dead girlfriend.

I'm such a wuss on horror games.

Creepy for me is playing Morrowind at night and walking into the tombs and you here muttering and whispering.

A version of Doom 1 or 2 - towards the end the background noise was babies crying.
