In your opinion what is the most successful gaming company? That is a company you have rarely experience bad games from?

I'm personally leaning towards Double Fine Productions though they only have given out one game (though 100% good game vs. bad game ratio).

I also like Bioware they seem to be on the right track (though they don't have a perfect ratio imo).
Double Fine are great and all because of Tim Schafer but to call the successful is a stretch. For one thing they've only produced one game which, despite its acclaim, is not enough to measure an entire company by. In addition their one game failed to have financial success and while remaining a cult success is not enough to redeem it. Currently Double Fine is working on releasing their second title but it seems as though they don't have the funds at the moment. Double Fine is not a successful company. They are a good company, but not a successful company.

I would say that in terms of financial success Nintendo and EA are way up there.
I would say that Blizzard is a success because they fail to have released a single game that wasn't a commercial success, and have failed to release a game that wasn't acclaimed as being very good.

Well Double Fine might not be successful in terms of financial success but I see it more as a failure in marketing. I did take it into account that they are a relatively new company and not very experienced. So In my opinion they did very well on their first game/only game. Though I can't really judge a company by one game (if Brütal Legend turns out great then I can judge them).

So that's why I did say Bioware in terms of being a more experienced company. Blizzard is also a good candidate but I can't really judge them as I haven't played many games by them (only played WC3, little of Diablo 2 and a little of WoW).

I don't really take Nintendo or EA into the mix as I find that they are a more separate from the consumer (because of their size).

So it's mostly based on the games I play (and like).

Valve just for Pure Win in Pacing and Storytelling

Nintendo and EA are more like Cash Cows than Game designers really

Most successful financially? Not exactly sure.

Most successful based on games? I vote Valve, no doubt. Their games never fail to disappoint me.

Success in terms of monetary earnings? EA/Activision.
Actually EA had massive losses and was forced to cut many jobs and game projects. Not sure about Activision, I don't think I've heard much about their financials lately.

A chart I've seen puts Nintendo at the top financially which is hardly surprising. I'm pretty sure Nintendo also puts out the most quality games but since they're scattered across so many genres every individual will only enjoy a subset of them. E.g. I didn't pick up Strikers (no interest in sports), Mario Kart (hated the series since it introduced the blue shell), BWii (don't like Advance Wars) and Smash Bros (just didn't like Melee much and the people I had over were mostly gamers who didn't like SSBM) but they're still there for those who care. NoE is a bunch of mindless jerks who unfortunately weren't the first against the wall when the Wii came but that doesn't diminish the quality of the games when they finally come out.

If people are comparing EA with Activision, shouldn't you include Blizzard with it. If I recall correctly Activision Blizzard is a joint company so it's both against EA.

I have to go with Blizzard just because I loved everything from them, well except WoW, but that was for a different audience I guess.

WCIII was brilliant especially.

Blizzard. They make money because they make quality games.

Blizzard can code. I never heared of any gamer with a half-decent rig not being able to play their games flawlessly. They polish their games very well for a non-japanese developer. They also keep releasing patches despite their games being playable right out of the box.

I would have to say Valve, they're very consistent when it comes to releasing good games.

Valve. I've never heard a bad word against them, and come on, even Yahtzee likes them. Lol

It's got to be blizzard for the most successful company - 10 million people giving them £9 a month, they have to be doing something right

They were, right up until they sold out to EA.

Within no time at all they were mired in the kind of crap traditionally associated with EA (DRM and telling people who come across problems to piss off).

If it wasn't for GTA4 I would have said Rockstar. But GTA4 showed us that there has been a massive change there. They have completely lost their balls, and made a boring, "realistic", and uncontraversial game.

I would say Blizzard. I don't like or play WoW, but I have to acknowledge its success.

Oddworld never made a bad game - in fact they never made anything that wasn't worth playing because all they ever did was make quality controls in a rich environment with atmosphere, humour, character and plot being pulled off so expertly it begged the question "why did they stop making games?"

I know the answer now, and it fills me with pessimism and disappointment.

I agree, them being bought by EA was a great disappointment. The quality of the games is still good but for a PC gamer the DRM is a ***** (Thats the reason why I bougth Mass Effect for the Xbox).

Then for all intents and purposes you aren't actually talking about how successful the company is. You're talking about how good the company is at producing a quality product, that is not 'success'.
