Personally my vote goes toward the Tyranids of the Warhammer 40k universe, for a good number of reasons.

They are controlled by a single consciousness that spans the entirety of their race, unsurprisingly called the 'Hivemind,' the physical manifestation of which is measured in LIGHT YEARS.

They devour every shred of organic matter on a given planet and apply thousands of years of evolution to the genetic identities of their prey. Literally, they will eat you, vomit you into the mycetic pools, and you will emerge a perfect incarnation of what you once were - utterly bound to the will of the Hivemind.

Most importantly though is what's written in their codex. It literally describes the Tyranids as the inevitable representation of death and rebirth, and it says of them that every living creature is doomed to stand against them, fight, and ultimately lose.

Dear god, they are HORRIFYING.
You just sold DoW2 to me, thanks

They sound a lot like the Flood, a race which I found quite unsettling due to the fact they spread so fast and wiped out the Forerunners, but these Tyrannid guys sound a lot more creepy

If you want a more serious answer I'd have to go with Dragonsatemymarbles

If you can destroy planets, extinguish races, and end goverments with a screwdriver.. then you've earned my fear.
Lollerskates.
I used to be afraid of those aliens from War of the Worlds, but now they're just annoyingly overpowered and kinda pointless.

The Xenomorphs are pretty scary, but I'd go with the Reapers from Mass Effect. Well they're robots, and not a race, but they've wiped out millions of organic galactic civilisations over the millions of years, and, since they're machine, it sounds logical that they were created by someone even bigger.
Well, at least in mass effect we can kick their asses. even if my friend chose the human ending and decided to screw the council (In the way that goes: Help! *Humans ignore thee!*)

I was going to say tyranids, but so many people have.
and the Thing has been mentioned... so...
The 'Stobor' (Very Smart Heinlein)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tunnel_in_the_Sky just a bit of backgound...

I bet there is a tyranid queen on their home world we would be able to take out- but I'll probably say orks

God damn those things are horrifying. Also from games I think the Mass Effect takes this one

The Reapers, a race of sentient machines with unknown age, origin and motives who's sole purpose is to destroy everything intelligent/sentient after 50,000 years of evolution. They show no fear, compassion or reason, they just kill you and destroy the planets you lived on then scrub your race from the history books. Oh and they have mind control that effects you if your even within half a planet of them that eventually destroys your brain and free will.

Mandalorians. They nearly wiped out the Jedi completely (not to mention several other races). And there hard to tell because they look just like humans.
I was under the impression they were humans, a warrior culture offshoot. Of Australians.
On topic, the sodding Xenomorphs from the Alien series. You can't stop them, you can't control them, you can't win. You can only survive, and thats difficult enough.

Weeping statues. From doctor who.

If you happen to feel like becoming paralysed with fear then I recommend that you watch that episode if not then here is a low-down of how they work.
They shoot you about thirty years into the past, then feed on the energy of all the things you could have done with that time. The way they do this is simply by touching you, easy! Simple melley enemies, just gun em down before they get to you, right? Wrong. Because if you can see them they turn into stone, stone that you cannot break. They resemble statues of angels, usually with their hands over their eyes. However when you look away, or blink, they are deadly fast. So the only way to stop them is too keep looking at them, but if there is more than one, that is damn tricky.

Its not the concept really, it is how the episode uses the concept that makes them terrifying even for adults. It is reported that children could be found staring at ornamental statues or gargoyles on their schools walls or roof in the playgrounds. That makes me laugh.

I say Tyranids. I originally hated them because they reminded me of the Zerg
You mean the Zerg remind you of Tyranids.

But I'd have to say either Tyranids or the Flood. Maybe the Daleks, but it's a stretch.
The Tyanids were eating worlds and tabletop armies a decade before the Zerg showed up in Starcraft. Come to think of it, Starcraft ripped off the Space Marines, Eldar and Tyranids from Warhammer 40k.

For me, it's also gotta be the Tyranids, either that or the Hounds of Tindalos. Jesus christ those things scare me.

I'd say the Grox creep the hell out of me as well.
They're really cute before they start shoving rocket shaped potatoes down your exhaust pipe.
