Imperium of mankind. Simply because even if you avoid being forced into the military, avoid being forced to feed the emperor because your physic, avoid being killed, eaten, enslaved, demonized etc etc, you'd more then likely get killed for forgetting to pray that morning.

I have not actually played Warhammer 40k but from what you have said they are remarkably like the Zerg.

I am an SC fan to my dying breath, so I have to say that the zerg are more scary. Just in my humble opinion, please correct me if I am wrong.
Tyranids pre-date Zerg.
Forgive me if i misinterpreted what you said, but i never said that the Zerg came before Tyranids. I am saying they are similar, but i find the zerg more terrifying.

This might sound kinda lame, but..........

I'd have to say the Ssi-ruu from the star wars expanded universe, I mean they suck out people life-force (pretty much souls) and use them to power their technology. Plus they look like sentient dinosaurs.

Don't belive me look here...

Those are just rediculous! Super intelligent velociraptors with tongues in their nostrils, who steal other beings' life-force to power their machines.

My vote goes to the Weeping Angels from the Doctor Who episode "Blink"

The atmoshpere when the Weeping Angels are around can only be described as "pantwetting"

The all female hunting clan. Likes the Amazons or whatnot. They make a man feel all kinds of feelings, pain being one of them.

I would rather get ambushed by cannibals then Amazons.

I'm going to go with Demons (Not flame), they are basically the embodiment of evil and there's normally a couple of legions of them.

Personally my vote goes toward the Tyranids of the Warhammer 40k universe, for a good number of reasons.

They are controlled by a single consciousness that spans the entirety of their race, unsurprisingly called the 'Hivemind,' the physical manifestation of which is measured in LIGHT YEARS.

They devour every shred of organic matter on a given planet and apply thousands of years of evolution to the genetic identities of their prey. Literally, they will eat you, vomit you into the mycetic pools, and you will emerge a perfect incarnation of what you once were - utterly bound to the will of the Hivemind.

Most importantly though is what's written in their codex. It literally describes the Tyranids as the inevitable representation of death and rebirth, and it says of them that every living creature is doomed to stand against them, fight, and ultimately lose.

Dear god, they are HORRIFYING.
An entire race is controled by one colective consciousness ok im with u so far.
But how would you measure a consciousness i would imagine its kind of ethereal and there for has no substance but asuming you could do so why is it measured in lightyears wich is a measure of time?
Im not familiar with the warhamer backstory can someone fill me in?

I say Tyranids. I originally hated them because they reminded me of the Zerg but then I read their codex and played a few games against them. Now they're terrifying just because they exist.
The Tyranids actually predate the zerg by a couple of years. Personally though I would have to go with the Necrons, because not only are they zombies, they are robot zombies out to assimilate your soul. Half the time when you think you've killed them all, they come back, generally after the big fight and when you are recovering.

With all the Dr. Who references made here, I'm surprised no one has mentioned the Weeping Angels. Nothing's creeiper than something that only moves when you're not looking at it!
Agreed, anything "innocent", "good" or something everyday that you don't give any second thoughts about turned bad has to be the most terrifying race in anything.
The Quantum Angels aren't that mean though. They're just mercenaries. And a good timelord can reverse the Timelock.

Sort of harder to reverse having another shadow though...nom nom nom.

On now that one was just mean.

OT:

I'd say the warriors of creatures of the second lower circle (I forget the name) in The Shadowwar series.

They are gods trapped in a constructed body, and they live off the life of everything. Grass dies at their feet, birds fall dead out of the sky when they march. Armies just...fall as they fight them.

Truely a terrifying foe.

The thing from.... The Thing.
And the alien from.....Alien. These are positively terrifying, IMO.

I also remember being terrified of that big red guy in the movie Legend when I was a little lad.

Necromorphs and Tyranids. Necromorphs need to be FUCKING dismembered to fucking die and Tyranids are just pure galactic devourers that even the Space Marines have trouble handling
