Unreal Tournament 1999. It's so awesome and no one is talking about it... well it is 12 years old now, but it's still great
Hey at least it gets more talk than that bore-fest UT2003.
Of course it did, UT2003 where crap. Only good thing was that we got a bit more Assualt maps, but they too got boring pretty fast. Thinking back, they really fucked up that game. Too much focus on making it look pretty instead of having it play well like UT99 did

Timesplitters... all of them.

That franchise should be the #1 shooter.

For me its Shinobido: Way of the Ninja on PS2. It was so much fun!! Deciding which feudal lord you were going to work for (although it was a lot more fun to work for all of them but go the whole game without any of them ever finding out!). You could be so creative with strategies, the stealth worked exceptionally well (as it should, its all about stealth), the gameplay was good, the story was interesting, it could on ocassion either make you feel, to quote Yahtzee, like "a monster truck that walks like a man", stuff can happen that has you laughing your head off...

And yet Im the only person I know personally who has even heard of it let alone played it 0.0

Jade Empire. It was a fantastic game, but it seemed almost like no one at all noticed it. :S
its because the mechanics were waaaaaaaaay too simple :[, turned off a lot of rpg fans, was quite a good story/ good char design though.

id say the most underrated game ive played was vampire the masquerade: bloodlines, probably the best atmosphere ive ever seen in an rpg, but when it was released, it was probably one of the buggiest things known to man, nobody got around to playing it. Fortunately, an unofficial patch has come through.

Portal, lol. But seriously Dawn of War 2: Retribution, it's such a fantastic game which more people should really play but it's just overshadowed by the behemoth known as Starcraft 2.

Prey. It was unique in almost every conceivable way. Non-white protagonist (for once), mind bending physics play, astral projection as a central fucking game mechanic, the death an re-birth system, entirely organic and unique weapons (and when I say organic, I mean that they are literally animals), and one of the scariest and most compelling opening scenes of any game I've ever played. Pure gold, and most people wrote it off.

Too bad the sequel got handed to different developers.

Crash Bandicoot 2: Cortex strikes back. Man so many good memories, awesome game that somehow has been forgotten

Grim Fandango.... the game is truly awesome, but it is a point and click adventure, and it came out some time in the late '90s... so no one really bought it.

Kill.Switch is my pick. This game was revolutionary in that it served as the predecessor to Gears of War and Uncharted with its cover system. This is where those games can trace their lineage.

Max Payne 2 even though it sold quite a bit but still not enough imo.

Metro 2033, Mercenaries: The Playground of Destruction and The darkness have already been mentioned.

Alan Wake was awesome and it was a pretty expensive game to make so I was really sad to see that it didn't sell that much.

I'd say Earthbound, but it's mostly that nobody ever bought it - the people who've played it (for the most part) love it and are unafraid to say so. Case in point: me.
In my eyes, Earthbound can no longer be considered underrated since everyone and their dog knows about it by now, and it's one of many games like Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy VII, and The World Ends With You that JRPG fans really need to stop banging on about. (I'm not claiming Earthbound is bad, but I do sure wish people would stop nagging me to play it)

Hogs of War for the PS1.

It was basically Worms but in 3D and with pigs. It was even more funny then Worms at the time in my opinion, and easily just as much if not even more fun to play.
Great call, had hours of fun playing that with my mates, all on a single controller. Loved the humour and cultural references too.

I'd have to say Final Fantasy V. One of the greatest games in the series, but it's far overshadowed by the likes of VI, VII, VIII, and X.

Earth defense force 2017, the video game equivalent of the "so bad it's good" B movie.
The only reason it's underrated is because it's impossible to find, and therefore not many people have heard of it.
Heh, my brother got me that for my Birthday. The storyline is ****ing mental as all shit.
