Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth. It's not insanely underrated, but I feel that it's highly underappreciated. It was fun while still paying good homage to it's source material. I wish they would do that with another one of Lovecraft's stories (the Dunwich Horror could work out really well if done right), but the developers aren't making any more of them. Then again, the glitches were a real pain. I had to download that unofficial patch to prevent myself from pulling my own hair out on the Shoggoth boss. It's sad, I like Shoggoths. I really do.
Off Topic: Captcha was "funime [Thompson". Sounds like some really stupid youtube user name.

I'd say Earthbound, but it's mostly that nobody ever bought it - the people who've played it (for the most part) love it and are unafraid to say so. Case in point: me.

I don't think I know anyone who's played Metroid Prime 2 Echoes, and owning all of the Prime games I can confidently say it's the best. The whole 'light/dark' duality aspect was done so well, that in the 8 years since its release I haven't seen another game come close. But I never hear anyone so much as mention it. Also, I'd buy a WiiU in a heartbeat if it boasted Prime 4 as an exclusive.

Suikoden 2. It should been acknowledge as mankind's success in the last generation.
^This.

Suikoden 2 was barely heard of, and only barely released in EU. 500 Copies I believe.

I found the game by pure accident, and it was Marevelous.

The Etrian Odyssey series. Being a fairly old-school grid-based dungeon crawler JRPG on the DS with a steep learning curve(albeit forgiving, when contrasted with true old-school rpgs ie Dark Spire), with a clear emphasis of gameplay over presentation and story, I highly doubt over anyone has heard of the game.

Shame, because if anyone does come across it, they would be dismissed by the "professional" game reviewers who take one glance at a game and either ejaculate over the impressive opening cinematics and give it higher than an 8, or find that the game offers them next to no eyecandy and are forced to play the game instead. As previously mentioned, this game has a steep learning difficulty and was instantly shunned by mainstream critics.

While larger companies are forced to forgo the traditional RPG values in order to compete for a more casual audience, Atlus shows that a game can still be good and turn-based. I'd highly recommend the Etrian Odyssey games anyone looking for a game with old-school appeal and a solid-RPG that is better than the trainwreck that is Dragon Quest IX.

First game that came to mind was The Darkness, but then I saw it was mentioned. Than I wanted to go with Metro 2033, but guess what ? Also NOLF was added to this list....Sometimes I hate you people :p

So I'm gonna go with Freedom Figters an awesome little third-person shooter with some tactical elements which I'm having trouble getting my hands on atm. Also I have fond memories of Star Trek: Elite Force 2, a game I really enjoyed a way back even though I'm not a Star Trek fan (at all).

Indigo Prophecy. it may have had an odd supernatural storyline and some of the worst graphics ive ever seen on a PS2 game, but honestly David Cage just has this way with me. I loved Indigo Prophecy everytime i played it, which about now has got to be near 10 times. If i had a Ps3, Heavy Rain would be my first buy just because its made by the same guy.
Ah yeah, damn that was a good game. After the first 5-10 minutes I KNEW I was in for a treat :D

I can't claim it to be the most underrated out of all underrated games, but Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy was a really fun game, and I never see anyone talk about it.
YES! YES! THANK GOD I'VE FOUND ANOTHER ONE. I"M NOT ALONE.

*Ahem*

I agree with this person. That game is single handedly my most favorite PC game ever made. Sure the visuals are dated, but they still look decent with an old Radon. Insane gameplay, endless modding, quicksaves, and possibly the most important thing about Star Wars - Lightsaber hits you once = Dead. If you unlocked the realism mode via Command Console, or scripts, the gameplay immediately changed. Lightsaber hits instantly spelled dead, and lasers did a lot more damage.

Loads of fun.

Seriously underrated.

I agree, Hotel Dusk is an awesome game, very cleverly done and a great atmosphere. Probably the only adventure game in that style that I've played through and enjoyed.

I'd say Armourines, Project SWARM. It was a FPS on the PSX, had split screen co-op, and really it was a lot like Halo. A bit glitchy, graphics weren't great, but I really enjoyed it. Take a look at this video, it's so Halo'ish it's scary!

Sengoku Basara: Samurai Heroes.
Deep characterization which came out of the blue, multiple branching paths for 16 characters.
It was awesome.

Got a link for that unofficial patch ? The only one i see just looks like it makes the game easier. More like cheats than actually fixing bugs.
I'm terribly sorry my good friend, but that is the unofficial patch I speak of. There isn't anything that fixes the bugs. Now, if you could tell me what part is bothering you I could offer some assistance, as I beat the whole game while encountering quite a few of the many reported bugs.

Shadow of Rome for PS2 had me and my friends addicted right from the start until the finish! Though we never saw or heard a single thing about it.

Also Okami for PS2 as well.
I felt that once it came out for Wii, people were drawn into it but once they figured out it was a horrible port, they didn't bother with trying the PS2 version... what a shame.

Earth defense force 2017, the video game equivalent of the "so bad it's good" B movie.
The only reason it's underrated is because it's impossible to find, and therefore not many people have heard of it.
One of my favorite games of all time! I can't wait for the sequel!

OT: Deadly Premonition. If you haven't played it, rectify that.
