Wait, I like sports, I obsess over sports, I have a man cave, I play sports games, but I am not limited in scope as to what games I play though. Am I some extra mythical cross between a dude bro and a gamer? Am I the missing link connecting the two? So many questions.
That depends entirely on which sports. Darts, lacrosse, even tennis are fine.

I prefer Baseball, American Football, and Hockey. Never been a fan of Basketball. I like the NBA 2k games but not actually watching the sport.

I believe Hockey is safe enough. Baseball and Handegg raise some potential "Dudebro" warning flags, though-- do you become loud and brotherly towards your compatriots when a game is on? Do you refer to a team as "us" or "we", as in "we just won", even when you yourself did not contribute to the team's success?

Gotta say no to all of them. Now I have a few questions for you. Do you continually gun for the Iron Throne even potentially killing off some close family members to get there? Would you willingly burn people alive to sate the desires of some Rhi'lor Priestess that does some questionable things?

The Throne is mine by rights, Bat Vader. All who deny that are my enemies.

EDIT: Oh, and I think you're safe from being a "Dudebro", by those criteria, at least. Sorry; I get hung up on the Throne sometimes, and it pushes the OT from my mind.

Why can't you share the throne? Six months for you, three for Renly, and three for Joffrey. Did you see the Tigers game today? It was cool to see McCann get his first home run via an inside the park home run. They were down 7 to 3 and came back to win 10 to 7.

The dudebro stereotype grew to mythical proportions because of a couple factors:

(1) Some people just love to hate on multiplayer, usually because they're bad at it. Insecurity has lead them into blanket condemnations of player vs player modes and recitation of tired XBL tropes as everything wrong with modern gaming.

(2) Hipsters just can't stand that certain AAA franchises continue to be successful, and they build up a BS narrative in their minds that it's holding the industry back from becoming a bastion of artistic greatness. Meanwhile, they will gladly preorder the 27th iteration of their pet franchise from Nintendo and preach about how fucking amazing the newest Call of Mario is.

(3) Everyone loves to feel superior to some other perceived lower class in the same group. "Look at my refined tastes compared to these dudebro CoD-playing heathens! Gone Home was a heart touching story that made me a better person". Meanwhile, the same person will throw a fit and brand you an elitist if you call out mobile gaming as the vile sewer of poor game quality it really is.

It's modern bigotry and hatred - like the term "redneck". It's more reflective of the fears of "normal" gamers of what they themselves might turn into unless they properly prepare themselves beforehand by "identifying the threat" and making sure not to become it than anything real.

This isn't to say that humans don't have problematic elements in their lives. So a frustrated teen might take out his frustrations in a CoD match as his ancestors might have alternatively done by going to a gym and beating on a punching bag. Someone upset about this frustrated teen might call him a "dudebro", which doesn't solve any problems and mostly serves to drive a wedge between people who could otherwise help each other.

The only serious concept of "dudebro" I'm aware of is the potential of rising fascism, as Europe is experiencing at the moment. If a culture of young men develops of unity excluding women, minorities, homosexuals, and the like, this could expand into fascism. It's very difficult to judge how much of a potential problem this is in the United States at the moment.

I had some dudebros in my dorm last year, and they were great fun to be around, especially when we would talk about video games and shit. I actually got one of them to try out Papers, Please and he enjoyed it quite a bit.[footnote]I thought he was ready for Dwarf Fortress. I was wrong.[/footnote]

It was also fun to play Madden for the first time in awhile as well. They kept on getting angry at me for going 60/40 run to pass ratio with the Ravens.

All I'll say is that about 50% of my male gamer friends only play shooters and sports games. You can decide if that's an answer or not.
