In honor of black history month, I decided to talk about the word ******. do you feel about the usage of ****** among blacks and frat boys/12 year olds. As for blacks, I find it ironic that people spent years to lower the usage of that word & black people use it all (in lack of a better word) Willy nilly. As for frat boys/12 year olds well that's just rudeness and anonymity but I think a few frat boys call themselves ****** so they can pretend to be black because to them black means cool. So anyway, do you care about the usage of ****** and do you think the definition of ****** changed from being derogative to just kind of a greeting.

The above is obviously a joke. I personally don't care about the word. I don't use it to be honest unless in jest, in a manner to make fun of other people's usage of it.

At this point, people need to just get over it. You can't erase words, so we should just adopt it into a different meaning.

Oh by the way, that last portion I said? It will never happen. =)

I'm a little tiffed in any situation in which one people under a designated spectrum of skin color can say words that other people under designated spectrums of skin colors can't.

Me, I use the word occasionally, but not by its old definition. I define it as "exceedingly ignorant mouth-breather who is most likely disgustingly obnoxious." This definition does not restrict itself to people of any particular spectrum of skin color. It's equally hateful to all colors and creeds, or rather, the person at whom the insult is directed and no one else.

According to the censorship of Huckleberry Finn, the "N" word is unacceptable, but calling a black person "slave" Is perfectly fine.

I think I'd rather be called the "N" word.

Any racial slur only has as much meaning as you put into it. If you take it offensively, then you're giving it the power to be offensive. The best thing you can do is ignore it. A word is just a word. Getting offended over a word seems like a waste of energy to me. I don't care if people use it, but then again, I'm not black. Though, I don't care if people use white racial slurs either because most racial slurs sound idiotic at best.

In short, get over it already.

I think that the show The Boondocks has done the best to describe the meaning of the N word in this clip.

No word should be off limits, and it should only be offensive when said with actual malicious intent.
Also, Black history month?? Never heard of it, is that an official thing?

I don't appreciate being called a "tranny" even by other transpeople so, I agree that the N word should be dropped, even by their own culture. That word has no right to exist.
It is harmful, derogitory and even by itself, it just sounds like a nasty word.

Yeah, I also hate the obvious case of context that arises from a "problem" like this. Understanding that one person might, due to birth, have a obvious contextual standpoint to separate his use from that of another is just unfair.

One thing i've always felt *both in real life and as far as moderation on this site* is that context should matter more then usage of the word. my friend is a huge fan of NWA *I think thats how its abbreviated* but instead of saying N-word with attitude he says Black People with Attitude and I think saying the N-word in that situation is ok. Using the term negatively is completely different. The N-word is used as a term of endearment it is completely ok, my friend calls everyone he doesn't hate a douche-bag but he uses it as a term of endearment and it doesn't offend us.

Well I say if black people use it then it's ok to use it as they're the ones it's supposed to offend.
