with the new saints row 4 trailer having come out, it has occurred to me that the saints row franchises is in a great position to act as a parody of the gaming genres. being as silly as it is, it would be easy to set it any where they needed for a parody.

It already is. I'm 2/3rds of the way through SR3 and I can point out individual instances where they've made fun of pretty much every genre and mechanic to date, ranging from zombies and overuse of gore to the ridiculous inhuman action sequences and quick time events characteristic of so many games. My personal favorite is where they stick you into a flat, two dimensional computer level and pit you against enemies that seemingly can't kill you if you try in any sense of the word (walking through the level without shooting counts as "trying"), all while your "avatar" varies between completely ridiculous models (a toilet with a gun is particularly memorable ) and a skinless, totally generic male body.

Pretty sure it hit this level once you had you, Johnny Gat, his main squeeze, and some actor guy all wearing Johnny Gat masks to rob a bank basically disguised as themselves, followed by the humorous and action-filled plane scene which was filled with about a million cars and crates to fall all over Steelport...which is a town run by Burt Reynolds.

It could only have gone more Naked Gun by having Leslie Neilson as the chief of police, if only he weren't dead. So, in essence, I agree with you...except that I think we're there already and that makes it awesome.
